Today we responded to a gas leak on Lake Emory rd. The road had to be closed for over an hour while the gas company had to locate and shut off the gas. These type of calls happen to often. Always call 811 to locate utilities before you dig. It will save a lot of resources from having to respond to something that could have been prevent. Plus it will save you some money. These utilities company's don't come fix these issues for free.

Around 8:28 this morning, crews responded to a fire at a single-story commercial strip building that houses several businesses. When firefighters arrived, they found heavy fire in the kitchen and rear of El Charo Restaurant, with flames spreading into the attic. Additional mutual aid was requested early on, and crews established a water supply from a nearby hydrant. Firefighters worked through challenging conditions to battle the fire in the rear of the building, the kitchen, and the attic. Thankfully, no civilians were injured. El Charo sustained heavy damage, as did other businesses in the strip. The Macon County Fire Marshal’s Office is working to determine the cause and origin of the fire, with assistance from the North Carolina State Bureau of Investigation. Please keep these small businesses in your thoughts as they work through this difficult time. We want to thank all responding fire departments, law enforcement, EMS, Macon County 911, and all agencies assisting with the investigation for their hard work and support. As the temperatures are starting to rise hot car calls are very possible. Just a few minutes could become deadly. Take those extra few seconds to stop look and lock before you get out of the car.

Tonight's training was all about relay pumping. Being we live in these beautiful mountains they do bring challenges. The different elevations might require multiple engines to pump the water to the fire. It was a great night to work on these skills.

B shift responded to a working vehicle fire today at Golfview Dr. The roadway was blocked for a few minutes for the safety of our crew and passenger cars. Thankfully there was no injuries. Thank you to squad 4 and Franklin Police Department for helping with traffic control.

Three members of our apparatus committee have completed the final inspection on our new Engine 11 and are on their way home. We are excited to be one step closer and look forward to taking final delivery in the coming weeks. Thank you to everyone who has helped make this project possible. Safe travels home, men.

At tonight’s Town Board meeting, Justin Setser was officially pinned as Fire Chief of Franklin Fire & Rescue by his wife, Kara, and daughter, Andi. Congratulations Chief Setser, we are proud of you and know your dad, Gary “Elmo” Setser, would be proud of his “Kid” too.

Franklin Fire & Rescue is proud to share that we recently completed our OSFM inspection and maintained our current fire ratings. Franklin Municipal remains a Class 3 and Franklin Rural remains a Class 4/9E. These ratings reflect a lot of hard work from our members, support from our Town and County partners, and continued focus on training, equipment, staffing, water supply, communications, and response readiness. Thank you to everyone who helps us keep moving forward and serving our community.

Your input can help shape safer sidewalks, crosswalks, bike routes, school routes, downtown access, and pedestrian safety throughout Franklin.
