Franklin Fire Department receives new cascade system!

I, Fire Chief Chuck Bourgeois, am pleased to announce that Franklin Fire Department has received a new Mako Cascade System purchased thru Delta Fire & Safety - LAEE donated by Saronic Technologies Inc.

A Cascade System is a vital piece of equipment that allows firefighters to refill our SCBAs (Self-contained Breathing Apparatus) after use at an emergency scene whether from a hazardous materials incident, confined space rescue, or from a fire. This new cascade system replaces a 26-year-old system that has been plagued by part failures causing significant down time due to its age and the inability to procure replacement parts.

On behalf of Mayor Foulcard, the City Council, the Citizens of Franklin, and members of Franklin Fire Department, I would like to thank Saronic Technologies for their support of the Franklin Fire Department.

Once again this week, Chief Chuck Bourgeois reports that on Friday, February 27, 2026 at approximately 7:11pm, St Mary 911 received a call in reference to a mobile home on fire on the 2300 block of Chatsworth Road in Franklin. Franklin Fire Department and Centerville Fire Department were dispatched, however responding engine companies were delayed by a train passing through Franklin. Crews arrived on scene at approximately 7:19pm, reporting a mobile home with fire showing from multiple windows. Crews quickly deployed a hose line to the structure, making an aggressive interior attack, getting water on the fire within 2 minutes of arriving on scene.

Fire was deemed under control within 10 mintues. Investigation determined the fire started in the kitchen with no working smoke alarms in the home. No injuries were reported to civilians or firefighters, but unfortunately a family pet perished in the fire. Red Cross has been contacted for assistance.

Thanks to Centerville Fire, Cleco, St Mary Sheriff Office, Water District #4, and St Mary 911 for their assistance.

Chief Bourgeois would also like to stress the importance of not driving around emergency vehicles that are blocking roadways even if you think you can fit. It places emergency personnel in additional danger, can hinder responding apparatus, and takes responders attention away from the emergency.

Please check your smoke alarms for working batteries and proper placement in your home.
