We got out early this morning and I think we have gotten all of our signs picked up. If I missed one, please let me know. Now, off to Florida for a few days.

I want to thank everyone that has supported me in this campaign. I knew it was going to be a close race going into it. First I want to thank my God for for his leadership and guidance. Second my wife Angela for her patiences over the last few months. My kids and grandkids for understanding when I missed events to campaign. My friends that were encouraging, especially Tim Hesson for driving me around on several Saturday’s while I knocked on doors. A special thanks to you, the voters that cast your ballot for me.
I’d also like to thank Peewee Sliger for an honest race. With all the ugly that went on this primary election cycle, we did it with integrity. I appreciate that. Congratulations Peewee.

There was not a lot of unexpected news that came out of today's court hearings concerning the data center.
In the TenKey vs. Simpson County case, TenKey will be amending their suit against the County. The reason for the amendment is that one of their allegations has already been addressed. The next court date for that case is tentatively scheduled for August 6th.

In the case of Franklin Citizens for Responsible Development vs. TenKey and the City of Franklin P&Z, each side will be given time to file their response and rebuttals to the allegations. The next court date for that case is scheduled for July 20th.

I have refrained from answering any negative comments on here and will still continue to do that.
I would like to share some of the qualifications that I feel will benefit me as a voting member of the fiscal court as west district magistrate.
First and foremost, I believe in God and his supreme leadership. I believe in the power of prayer and that it affects the way we see things if we will listen to it. I’ve been in the ministry for over 40 years, most of which has been on the mission field or in evangelistic work. I have tried to follow God and his direction throughout all aspects of my life. I’m not a perfect man and sometimes I falter from that. We’re all human and make mistakes.
Second, I spent my career as a salesman and retired from Hutson Inc, the local John Deere dealer. I was responsible for putting bids together, so I understand the dynamics well. Most all of the bids or quotes I did were very close margins that required making sure every “I” was dotted and every “T” was crossed. Paying attention to detail is imperative when working with budgets, bids as well as other aspects. I dealt with farmers who work very narrow margins in their budgets. I dealt with angry customers, happy customers and customers that were frustrated with how to make the numbers profitable for them, not just to close a deal.
Third, I am a farmer. My wife and I own land in Simpson county. In 2020 my daughter started raising pinto beans for an FFA project that we have turned into a small growing business. How does that help our community? We’re the only ones that we know of to raise dried edible beans in the southeastern U.S. that we know of. We’ve dealt with learning how to grow them in our climate, we’ve dealt with marketing, we’ve dealt with research, we’ve dealt with getting them on the crop list through the FSA office in order to secure crop insurance, we’re currently working with the KDA to establish guidelines for safe foods for dried beans, we’ve worked with grant proposals through the KDA and USDA as well. By working with the KDA and KYProud, it is our goal to eventually add another sustainable crop to our community as well as the commonwealth.
Fourth, I care about this community and what happens to it. I do believe that an open and honest communication with those that I serve is vital in maintaining a healthy relationship with anyone whether it be family, friends, customers or members of our community. I do not believe in an elected official should ever sign and NDA that dictates secrecy of information to the community. I do understand there are certain areas of the fiscal court regarding personnel issues that most protect the privacy of employees too.
I would be honored to serve the west district of Simpson County as your next magistrate.

PS- I do not use AI for writing post. I cannot in good conscience use something to ask for your vote that I stand firmly with the people of Simpson County against.

Well, it’s here. Early voting starts this morning and runs through Saturday. 8:00 am - 4:00 pm. Some of the questions I’ve been ask over the last few months
Where do you stand on the data center? I’m not in favor of it. There’s to many unanswered question with regard to the environment, the noise levels, the traffic and the utilities usage. There’s more, but the key would be to get straight honest answers.
What do you think about the division between the city and the county? I feel there are way to many personal feelings involved that are causing the division. I also believe, come January, when newly elected officials take office, there will be serious talks to realign some form of working relationship. I’ve spoken with several candidates and everyone have expressed a desire to sit down and talk.
How do you feel about the separating of the P&Z? It’s my perspective that this goes along with the strife between the two local governmental bodies. I don’t feel like it’s in the communities best interest to have two separate entities. We are a small community with only one town in the whole county, unlike other counties where there are multiple towns within the county. It would be my desire to reunite these two into one with two board members from the city/county respectively and a chairman. It would also be my desire to structure the board of adjustments the same way. Each member and chairman should be a local resident.
How can we stop the rapid annexing of county property? That’s a tough one. Maybe a waiting period from the time of filing until the actual annexation final passages is taken to give citizens a chance to speak. I don’t have a firm answer on this one
My favorite question that comes from most everyone that travels Springfield Rd. Can you please fix the pavement coming into 1008 at the stop sign? I wish I could have control of that. Unfortunately that’s a state road, but I do promise to continue to ask the state road department to fix it and fix it right this time. I’d also ask each of you to do the same. Kind of the squeaky wheel approach on this one.
How do you plan on keeping the people informed of what’s going on? My plan is to hold semi-annual West District town meetings and serve some type of meal, probably “beans & cornbread” since I have a good source for locally grown beans where we can all sit down and discuss things in an open, respectful format so that everyone has an opportunity to voice their concerns and ask questions. (it’s not going to be a place for rude or disruptive behavior). I’ll also challenge the rest of the fiscal court to participate as well. In my mind I see it as something that anyone in the county could attend as well.

With less than a week until the polls are closed and people have cast their votes. I’d like to say how much I’ve actually enjoyed visiting, getting to know the people in the west district and catching up with old friends, even if we did sit and talk way too long. I haven’t gotten to talk to everyone, but I’ve tried.

I’d like to thank my opponent Peewee Sliger for a clean honest race, when we started this, we agreed that we were going to run on our own merits and not use negative campaigning.

We can both hold our head up on May 20th knowing we kept our word and let the people decide who they want.

Gentle reminder if you can’t vote on the 19th.
