Gloucester County GOP Chairman Adam Wingate Statement on Illegal Immigrants Voter Registrations in New Jersey

Harrison NJ — Gloucester County Republican Chairman Adam Wingate issued the following statement after Governor Mikie Sherrill confirmed that approximately 6,600 illegal immigrants were registered to vote through a software error in New Jersey's Motor Vehicle Commission system, with a preliminary review finding that hundreds of those individuals cast ballots in the 2023 and 2024 election cycles.

"For years, Republicans have been warning that New Jersey's election system has vulnerabilities that must be addressed. Instead of listening, Democrats mocked those concerns. When President Trump's Administration and the Department of Homeland Security raised alarms about illegal immigrants on voter rolls, they were dismissed as fearmongers, conspiracy theorists, and alarmists. Now, the Democrat Governor of New Jersey has admitted that thousands of people who explicitly stated they were not U.S. citizens were nevertheless registered to vote because of a failure in the state's own system, and hundreds went on to cast ballots.

This is unacceptable. Every legal vote should count, and every illegal vote cancels out the voice of a law-abiding citizen. Whether this happened because of incompetence, negligence, or a systemic failure, New Jersey voters deserve an independent review providing answers and accountability.

Republicans have been leading on election integrity while Democrats repeatedly tried to silence the conversation. Earlier this year, New Jersey Republican Chairwoman Christine Giordano Hanlon established an Election Integrity Task Force to find and call out these concerns and ensure we have free and fair elections.

Here in Gloucester County, elections are often decided by razor-thin margins. We have seen local races determined by just a handful of votes. When elections are that close, every improperly cast ballot matters. That's why we are calling on every eligible Republican and every legal voter who believes in fair elections to make their voice heard at the ballot box this November.

We are not going to sit quietly while confidence in our elections is undermined. We will continue to demand stronger safeguards, greater transparency, and full accountability from those responsible. Election laws exist for a reason, and they must be enforced equally.

At the same time, the best response is overwhelming civic participation. We encourage every eligible and legal voter to register, stay informed, and vote. The stronger the turnout, the stronger the public's voice in our elections."

The Gloucester County Republican Organization said it will continue working with the New Jersey Republican Party's Election Integrity Task Force and advocates for further review of election procedures to help ensure voter rolls are accurate and that election laws are followed consistently. The organization is siding with many of our Republican state legislators in calling for an independent investigation into the NJMVC and our voter rolls.
