Yesterday, Franktown Fire, West Douglas Fire, and Elbert Fire proudly celebrated the graduation of our newest firefighters.

Surrounded by family, friends, and mentors, these graduates were recognized for the hard work, dedication, and perseverance they demonstrated throughout the academy. The challenges they overcame and the bonds they built will connect them throughout their fire service careers.

Congratulations to each of you! We celebrate your accomplishment and wish you long, healthy, safe, and rewarding careers as you serve your communities.

🎆 Celebrate Safely, Douglas County!

As the 4th of July approaches, we want to remind everyone to celebrate responsibly. We get it, fireworks are a holiday favorite. But they can also be dangerous, spark wildfires, and cause serious stress for veterans, pets, and neighbors. Under Stage 2 Fire Restrictions, ALL fireworks are banned.

If you see illegal fireworks and can provide the location, please use the Fireworks Hotline, 303-814-7118. It will be staffed and available to receive fireworks-related complaints from July 3rd through July 5th, between 6:00 p.m. and midnight each evening.

Outside of these dates and hours, citizens should report fireworks-related concerns through Douglas Regional 9-1-1's non-emergency line at 303-660-7500.

IMPORTANT! This is an upgrade to the previous restrictions. ALL FIREWORKS AND OPEN FIRES ARE PROHIBITED

FIRE RESTRICTION UPDATE: STAGE 2 NOW IN EFFECT

Because it is hot and dry, fuel moisture levels are extremely low, and high fire danger across the state is putting a massive strain on our emergency responders, Douglas County has officially elevated fire restrictions to Stage 2 for all of unincorporated Douglas County, including Larkspur and Castle Pines.

We understand that moving to Stage 2 right before the 4th of July is incredibly difficult, especially since we all look forward to celebrating this holiday together. However, our first responders have already responded to multiple fires in recent days ignited by fireworks. With multiple wildfires burning across Colorado, our absolute priority must be keeping your families, your homes, and our personnel safe.

Please look out for each other and celebrate responsibly. Compliance with these restrictions is mandatory.

🚫 STRICTLY PROHIBITED:
• Open burning of any kind
• All fireworks (including professional displays)
• Chimineas, portable fireplaces, or patio fire pits
• Campfires at developed campgrounds or picnic areas
• Model rockets

✅ PERMITTED (Under strict guidelines):
• Liquid or gas-fueled stoves, grills, and appliances
• Actively supervised residential charcoal grills (supervised by someone 18+)
• Fires inside permanent fireplaces/wood stoves inside permanent buildings only

☁️🌨️We currently are getting a lot of calls for the thick smoke in the Franktown valley. As of now, this is the smoke from the western slope. 🔥

As of Monday, June 29th - we are in Stage 1 Fire Restrictions. No fireworks.

🔥EFFECTIVE IMMEDIATELY: Due to increased fire danger, Stage 1 Fire Restrictions are now in place across unincorporated Douglas County, including the City of Castle Pines and the Town of Larkspur, until further notice.

We understand America's 250th birthday is a special occasion to celebrate with loved ones in a major way, but with the current extremely severe fire danger we face, the safety and lives of our community is top of mind right now. Our experts considered the risks: the lack of moisture we have, wind possibilities, and lack of state resources available as firefighters courageously work to suppress a number of fires in our state this week, when making the ultimate decision to implement stage one fire restrictions. We ask you celebrate Independence Day safely with your loved ones this weekend, keeping in mind the following:

3:04 pm Update: Crews have controlled the fire but must maintain a safe distance from the downed power lines. You will see smoke in the area until utilities are able to be shut off.

Crews are responding to a small grassfire near Sagewood Middle School. Reports of a downed power line also in the area. Crews are quickly containing the fire and keeping the citizens in the area safe.

Crews were able to quickly contain a quarter acre grass fire off of Highway 86, west of Highway 83.

Today, Franktown Fire had the honor of hosting Rock Canyon High School’s Fire Science Program for their “Skills Day.”

We take pride in being known as the “Schoolhouse,” where we support those with a curiosity for the fire service, mentor future firefighters, and help instill a strong commitment to serving the community.
