David Edwards for Putnam County Commission

David Edwards for Putnam County Commission I’m David Edwards, running as a Democrat to represent District 1 of Putnam County.

08/07/2026

Well folks we did it, the Flock cameras in Rock Branch are both gone, all that’s left is the gas line next to it! I hope it was the county that took them down, otherwise I’m pretty sure we owe $2k to replace them 😂

If you wanna try and get your signs back they should be at the DOH garage!

I wonder if Morrisey got free AI use tokens as part of the deal to sell out the whole state to big tech with HB2014?

This is all garbage information with a garbage presentation from a garbage leader who is waging war on poor people at every chance.

Give them the damn clothing vouchers Pat.

Ever drive through Route 35 at night and look over and see Toyota and all the lights?

The property for the data center proposed for Buffalo is six times the size of all of Toyota’s land, not just what’s built on.

Thanks to House Bill 2014, passed last year, we have no way to enforce any local ordinances for even something as basic as noise and light pollution.

If you’d like to learn more or already know plenty but want to know what you can do, please join us at the Buffalo Town Hall on Thursday, 8/6 at 6:30 where Putnam United will have a full run-through of what we know and what we can do.

I’ll be speaking about HB2014, explaining what it is and what we must do to make sure the lawmakers that took away our voice know that our communities just want a seat at the table.

Listen, I’m just as upset about the flock cameras purchased with opioid settlement money as the next guy, but I don’t think this is appropriate on elementary school property.

Get them both out of here 😂

The Putnam County Commission meeting this week was interesting. I gave them a break and didn’t talk about data centers for once, I had my attention on two things:

Flock Cameras
The opioid settlement funds they used to buy them.

The sheriff told us a year ago when everyone was upset at $10k of settlement funds being spent on phone hacking equipment and also near blank checks for the jail bill that the money would be spent “primarily on recovery”.

Looking at the numbers available to me we aren’t anywhere close to that. With even the most conservative estimates, if we stopped every cent going to law enforcement and only spent the same $2k/month on direct aid that we are currently, it would take OVER 30 YEARS TO CATCH UP.

My question for the Commission and the Sheriff is at what date are we targeting to accomplish aid overtaking law enforcement with these funds like we were promised?

People ask me all the time what made me want to run for office, this was honestly the straw that broke the camel’s back: seeing how the opioid settlement funds have been used.

I asked how the Commission could possibly think TWO $24k checks to Flock was more appropriate than $5k on life saving supplies and medication that would actually benefit the community that bled and died for us to get the settlement money in the first place. They told us it was pitched to them last year as something that could help track drug traffickers.

I told them if they can’t responsibly spend this money then they need to appoint a board with members of the community to spend it correctly instead.

I say this as an alcoholic with nearly 6 years of sobriety.

I say this as someone who has been to the funerals and shook the hands of grieving fathers.

I say this as someone with family dealing with this to this day.

I say this as someone who loves someone who could still be here if that life saving medicine was readily available 15 years ago.

Spend the money correctly, give people a chance at tomorrow.

I had someone reach out to me to order some shirts and told me they didn’t care about size or color for the third so I was confused.

They read “Repeal HB2014, protect our communities” She told me two were for herself and then the third she was sending to Patrick Morrisey.

I told her this one was on me 😂

It’s extra fitting she’s sending him a shirt at the same time that he’s playing games with low income children’s clothing vouchers.

I hope you enjoy it Pat, might send the next one to Roger Hanshaw but hopefully he can cover the cost of it since he’s making CRAZY money selling us out to big tech!

I decided to stop by the Rock Branch Sheetz and see for myself, the Flock cameras are not disconnected. This is turned on and actively recording, proven by the IR lights coming on when triggered BY A BICYCLE.

The next County Commission meeting is 7/28 at 5:00PM, at the courthouse in Winfield. I’ll be there to ask a few questions:

Why are they on?
Why are we told by elected officials they’re disconnected?
What information has been collected?
When did it start?
Who has access to it?
Why do we think this is an acceptable use of $24,000 of the opiod settlement fund?
When will they ACTUALLY be removed?
Can I place a black trash bag on them until they are gone?

Hopefully they’ll give us some information and we won’t have to bother with FOIA.

I’ll call this week to see if we can get on the docket but there is always public comment, show up and let them know what we think about them enhancing the surveillance state and lying to us about it.

Guess where this money came from? The opioid settlement fund.

We keep dumping out that piggy bank for surveillance and the jail bill. We should be investing into our communities that have been hurt and lead to us getting the settlement money in the first place.

I didn’t see any mention in meeting minutes from June, this was approved in October so we entered into a contract without the money for it yet?

From October 28th 2025 Commission Meeting:

Commissioner Ellis made a motion to approve the following orders to issue checks from the
Opioid Settlement Fund ( #40-980-2-30.0) as presented:

*Issue a check from ( #40-980-4-59.0) in the amount of $24,000.00 made payable to Flock
Group, Inc. for the Flock Safety Long Range License Plate Readers for the Putnam
County Sheriff’s Department
