Thank you to everyone who joined us for Frederick’s first-ever Juneteenth Community Celebration at Mullinix Park.

The event brought residents together to celebrate freedom, honor Black history and culture, and reflect on the resilience and contributions of African Americans throughout our community’s history.

We are grateful to our vendors, community partners, performers, volunteers, and attendees who helped make this inaugural celebration a success.

On June 19, the City of Frederick dedicated a new mural honoring the legacy of Frederick County’s first Black high school and the educators, students, and community leaders who helped shape its history.

Created by artist Rafael Blanco, the mural commemorates the school’s original 1920 location and celebrates the lasting impact of those who expanded educational opportunities for Black students in Frederick.

Thank you to everyone who joined us for this special dedication and the kickoff of Frederick’s Juneteenth Celebration.

🌟 What are your hopes and dreams for Frederick's future? 🌟

Join us on Wednesday, June 24, from 5–7 PM at City Hall for the opening reception and community installation of Frederick's Shared Future, the latest exhibition in the Art in City Hall Program.

As part of our community's commemoration of the nation's 250th anniversary, residents of all ages are invited to help create this unique exhibition by sharing their hopes and aspirations for Frederick through postcards and video messages.

-Help install the exhibit
-Submit your own postcard or video response
-Connect with neighbors and community leaders
-Be part of a project that will be preserved in a time capsule and shared with future generations

Throughout July, the exhibition will showcase community-submitted postcards reflecting our collective vision for Frederick's future. Video responses will be compiled into a special presentation during the Weinberg Center's 100th Anniversary celebration in Fall 2026.

Whether you write, draw, doodle, or simply come to be inspired, your voice matters.
