WWII ADT conducts two Parachute Schools each year. Our annual Fall Parachute School was October 9-17. WWII ADT conducts the Parachute School based on the syllabus of the WWII US Army airborne training. It is a strenuous week for the students, and it tests them both physically and mentally. Upon completion of the school, they walk taller and realize they are capable of much more than they ever thought possible.
Our 84-year-old historic WWII Frederick Army Air Field hangar was hectic with activity every day! Twenty-two new students, three returning students, and two attendees from France completed the school and earned their jump wings. Two new pilots were in training to fly our WWII veteran ‘SkyTrain’s,’ and a new Jumpmaster and Master Jumpmaster candidate were in training.
During the week, more than 75 team members volunteered their time in many roles to support the school. For example, many were instructors working with the students from dawn to lights out. The Mess Hall staff prepared more than 2000 meals during the week! The Parachute Rigger Team managed the 268 parachutes used throughout the week. The Engineering Team worked on projects to repair and enhance the historic hangar. Motor Pool kept the WWII vehicles running for parachutists pick up on the DZ and jeeps for the DZ Safety Team. Aircraft ground crew kept the 84-year-old C-47A 'Boogie Baby' and 85-year-old C-49B ‘Wild Kat’ ready for jumps ops every day.
At each October Parachute School, ADT hosts an Open Hangar Day for the public to visit the historic hangar, learn about WWII, and see jump operations. We had a great turnout this year. ADT also collected toys for Marine Toys for Tots Foundation. Thanks to the generous citizens that attended, we collected a record number of toys for underprivileged children to have a Merry Christmas.
If you would like to challenge yourself, train in a historic WWII facility, jump from a WWII veteran transport, and honor our veterans through the WWII Airborne heritage, then enlist in the WWII ADT Parachute School today!
Find out more about WWII ADT and consider becoming part of our dynamic organization! Where else can you be immersed in WWII history, train in an authentic WWII facility, and jump from WWII veteran aircraft. The atmosphere of our training has been described as 'stepping back 80 years into a WWII movie.'
