It just takes a little bit of to turn trash into treasure! One FCPS student did just that! Last night's Bee City kickoff featured an art exhibit by rising senior, Anastasia Feist. She organized a stream cleanup in the City with her peers from Oakdale High School. Anyone can pickup trash but it takes to upcycle it into something that educates the community.

We challenged Anastasia to learn from the litter and connect it back to our new Bee City initiative. What she produced exceeded our expectations! Wrappers became flowers🌻 , bottle caps trandformed into bees🐝 ,and she even created an exhibit to teach people about the lifecycle of bees: the BEEginning of life!

It all started with a conversation our team had with Anastasia at the Mobilize Frederick Climate Summit. Student career coaches arranged for 100+ students from FCPS to attend that summit. We're so glad she did!

Our young leaders give us hope for the future! With insects in decline we are in dire need of people like Anastasia to inspire and effect change.

You can be the change too! Take this short survey to shape the future of our Bee City program: https://forms.gle/jCk45sh8wChnQsEi9

Huge thanks to our partners from: Frederick County Division of Energy and Environment and Master Gardeners Frederick County Maryland for putting on an evening of learning and action!
