Reel'n for the Rapp - Fishing Tournament - Friends of the Rappahannock

Fellow Fly Fishers
Adam Lynch asked me to pass on the info below as he is looking for Judges and participants for this event.

I wanted to pass along information about FOR's upcoming first-ever fishing tournament. This event is a fundraiser for FOR and a good way to spread the word about our work.

We are recruiting people to both compete in the tournament and to serve as judges.

Here are some details about the event:
- The event is 2 weeks long (June 12-26)
- Participants register through the FOR website. Tickets are $25 for one participant, $45 for a team of 2, and $10 for a child under 16
- Participants will submit photos of their fish using the iAngler app, and compete for prizes for various categories, such as largest fish (across several species) and other small challenges.
- All participants will receive a special tape measure as part of the tournament. All measurements will be in length.
- Adults are allowed to fish only rivers and streams within the Rappahannock River system-- no lakes. Only participants under 16 can fish select lakes.

Judges
We are looking for 3 more judges. Judges will verify the photo entries to ensure that participants are being honest about the size and species of their fish. Each judge will need to log into the iAngler website on their computer every 1-2 days and click through photos of fish. The overall time commitment is less than an hour per day. Tournament participants cannot serve as judges.

Sign ups begin within the next week. Here's the Event page for the tournament: https://riverfriends.org/event/reeln-for-the-rapp-fishing-tournament/

Feel free to reach out to Adam by email or phone (540-809-2066) with questions.

Fishing report:
Fishing on the Rappahannock this spring has been good. It has been great seeing some of the club regulars out on the river. Hickory Shad are still in the river. We have started to catch white perch and a few striped bass. I expect the Striped bass to improve over the next week or two. I recommend shad flies or bait fish patterns such as Kreelex minnow, Lefty's Deceivers or Clouser minnows.

Rapp carp on 9 wt
Just wanted to share some of our Argentina experiences.
Three stripers and plenty of shad below town this evening.
Hi RE: Hickory Shad Creel Recommendations I am conerned that the Hickory shad will be overfished due to no creel limits by VMRC. If you concur please send a email to email list below. Please email me [email protected] on your view of this subject. To 'O'Reilly, Rob (MRC)'
Was hoping to make the group float but a conflict came up. Does anyone have recommendations on a good sit on top kayak for fly fishing on the Rappahannock? I've got a couple of the hybrid sit inside kayaks that are nice for fly fishing but am looking into a sit on top that is stable but not crazy heavy. I know the Mayfly is designed for fly fishing but it's a pretty big, heavy boat. Thanks!
