๐จ PUBLIC INFORMATION RELEASE โ FREDERICKTOWN POLICE DEPARTMENT
The Fredericktown Police Department would like to inform residents that the loud explosion heard this afternoon was the result of a controlled detonation conducted by the Columbus Bomb Squad, who assisted the Fredericktown Fire Department and Fredericktown Police Department.
A resident discovered a small quantity of old photographic flash powder in a barn and contacted the Fire Department. Flash powder was historically used in vintage photography and is also used in theatrical pyrotechnics.
Out of an abundance of caution, the Columbus Bomb Squad responded and safely conducted a controlled detonation. All necessary safety precautions and safeguards were put in place, and there was no significant danger to the public.
We appreciate the cooperation of our community and the assistance of the Columbus Bomb Squad in helping ensure everyone's safety.
