We would like to take a moment to tell you about our Movember motivation.

Since 2022 Local 2931 has lost three of our charter members, two of them to cancer. Pictured below are our brothers we have lost: Carl Brandt, Randy Butts, and John Green.

Our hope throughout the month of November is to continue to raise awareness for men’s health and to honor the memory of these lost members. 🔥🚒 Local 2931 Firefighters are trading their razors for a cause! 🚒🔥

That’s right — it’s Movember, which means the men of Local 2931 are growing some truly questionable mustaches in the name of men’s health — mental health, su***de prevention, prostate cancer, and testicular cancer awareness.

We can’t promise these ’staches will look good… in fact, we can almost guarantee they won’t. But every awkward whisker helps raise awareness and funds for a great cause.

Yesterday, Local 2931 was deeply saddened to learn of the passing of one of its founding members, Carl Brandt.

Known fondly by his brothers as “ #3”, Carl served as President of the Fredonia Professional Fire Fighters Association, Local 2931, for over 25 years — the longest-serving president in the union’s history. He truly embodied a life dedicated to service.

Throughout his career, Carl’s commitment to his brothers of Local 2931 never wavered. He tirelessly advocated for his fellow firefighters, treating them as family and caring for them with unwavering loyalty.

He was a mentor to many, often taking new and young firefighters under his wing. Known for his stories, wisdom, and the hard candies he was always ready to share, Carl earned the admiration and respect of all who had the privilege of knowing and working alongside him.

Carl touched countless lives through his many years of service to the Village of Fredonia and its residents — a service he was immensely proud of. Local 2931 extends its deepest condolences to Carl’s family and expresses its sincerest gratitude for his decades of dedication, leadership, and love for the firefighting community he held so dear.

Thanks to the overwhelming generosity of our community, we were able to raise a grand total of $5,599.40 for the Muscular Dystrophy Association! This year marked our 12th annual boot drive for the MDA. Thank you to everyone who donated to this great cause!

Fredonia Professional Firefighters will be holding our 12th Annual MDA Fill the Boot Drive tomorrow, Friday August 29th from 9a to 5p at the intersection of Temple St and Church St.

All proceeds benefit the Muscular Dystrophy Association!

Fredonia Fire was recently informed that residents in our service area have received calls to their homes soliciting for donations on behalf of our Fire Department. While we do have our Annual Fund Drive underway, we only send information via the US Postal Service and will never call you at your home or business. Any such call is fraudulent and should be reported to the appropriate authorities.

This morning, June 25, 2025, Lieutenant Timothy Winters wrapped up his final shift, marking the end of a great career. After over 20 years as a career firefighter and lieutenant, and more than 25 years serving the Village of Fredonia Fire Department, Tim is retiring.

Hired on March 7, 2005, Tim remained as the department's youngest and newest firefighter for 9 years. By October 2017, he was the most senior firefighter, and in 2020, he was promoted to lieutenant.

Tim has been a vital part of the Fredonia Fire Department. As a union officer from 2013 to 2024, 9 of those as union president, he led contract negotiations, assured members’ interests, and spearheaded the annual MDA boot drive that continues to set new records every year. Tim was instrumental in increasing firefighter staffing over the years.

Tim’s dedication and leadership will leave a lasting impact. Thank you, Tim, for all you’ve done for the fire department and local 2931. Enjoy your retirement!
