⚠️ SEVERE WEATHER ALERT — Fredonia / Pomfret Area ⚠️

The Storm Prediction Center has increased the severe weather threat for western and central New York, including our area, to an Enhanced Risk (Level 3 of 5) for severe thunderstorms beginning this afternoon and continuing through tonight.

Timing: Storms are expected to begin impacting our area around 5:00 PM this evening, with multiple rounds possible into the overnight hours.

Main Threats:
🌪️ Isolated tornadoes, some potentially strong
💨 Damaging wind gusts of 60–75 mph
🧊 Large hail, ranging from quarter-size up to golf ball-size
🌧️ Heavy rainfall with potential for localized flash flooding

The Storm Prediction Center indicates a 95% probability of a Tornado Watch being issued for our region.

What You Should Do:
✅ Charge your cell phones and make sure you have a way to receive weather alerts
✅ Identify a safe room now — an interior room on the lowest floor, away from windows
✅ Secure or bring in loose outdoor items (furniture, trash cans, decorations)
✅ Avoid unnecessary travel once storms arrive
✅ If a Tornado Warning is issued for our area, take shelter immediately

Our emergency responders have been, and continue to be, actively monitoring conditions in our area. Another weather system is expected to move through tonight, bringing the potential for continued rain and gusty winds.

Please use caution while traveling, secure any loose outdoor items, and stay alert for changing conditions. If you need assistance, don’t hesitate to call 911.

⚠️ SEVERE WEATHER POSSIBLE TODAY ⚠️

An Enhanced Risk (level 3 of 5) is in place for our entire region this afternoon and evening. The main threat window is 1 PM – 8 PM.

Biggest concern: damaging winds (45% risk), with smaller chances of tornadoes, hail, and isolated flash flooding.

Storms will be fast-moving, but heavy downpours are possible. Stay weather-aware and have a way to receive warnings.

🚨 TRAFFIC ADVISORY – SUNDAY, APRIL 26 🚨

The 9th Annual 1891 Run for the Fredonia Opera House will take place tomorrow morning.

🏃‍♂️ Race Start: 9:00 AM
🕗 Event Time: Approximately 8:00 AM – 11:30 AM
📍 Location: Village of Fredonia & SUNY Fredonia campus

🚧 ROAD CLOSURES:
• Church Street
• Day Street
(Closed approximately 8:00 AM – 11:30 AM)

⚠️ USE EXTREME CAUTION IN THE FOLLOWING AREAS:
• Temple Street
• Central Avenue
• Ring Road
• Brigham Road

Please be alert for a high volume of runners and walkers throughout the area. Expect delays, follow posted detours, and use caution when traveling near the route.

👮‍♂️ Emergency services will be in the area to assist with traffic control and public safety.
