‼The combination of drying fuels, low relative humidity values, and breezy winds will result in elevated fire danger conditions across northern lower Michigan today.

💨Easterly winds will increase to around 10 mph this afternoon, with gusts around 20 mph. Relative humidity values between 20 and 30 percent are expected across most of northern Michigan. These conditions support the quick start and spread of wildfires, so be sure to take the proper precautions to prevent fires from starting.

🔥 HIGH FIRE DANGER ACROSS NORTHERN MICHIGAN 🔥

Before you burn, check first!

The Michigan Department of Natural Resources continues to restrict open debris burning across much of northern Michigan as dry conditions and elevated fire danger persist.

The National Weather Service in Ga***rd reports that low humidity, drying vegetation, and gusty winds continue to create conditions that support the rapid start and spread of wildfires.

🟫 Brown Counties:
No burn permits are currently being issued.

⬜ Gray Counties:
Burn permits are not issued electronically. Contact the DNR for permit information.

Before conducting any outdoor burning:

✅ Check current burn permit conditions before burning
✅ Keep a hose, water source, or firefighting tools nearby
✅ Never leave a fire unattended
✅ Fully extinguish campfires before leaving
✅ Avoid activities that may create sparks in dry vegetation
✅ Use extra caution with trailers, equipment, and vehicles around dry grass

🏕️ Small recreational campfires contained within a fire ring or fire pit are generally not affected by debris burning permit restrictions. Campfires should always be attended and completely extinguished when finished.

⚠️ Remember: Anyone conducting outdoor burning may be held financially responsible for fire suppression costs, property damage, and other losses resulting from an escaped fire.

Relative humidity values between 15-30 percent are expected
across parts of interior northern Michigan with the potential for localized minimum relative humidity readings in the low teens.

♨🔥These conditions support the quick start and spread of wildfires, so be sure to take the proper precautions to prevent fires from starting.

Good Sunday morning everyone! It's another beautiful day ahead here in the state of Michigan. It might seem like Groundhog Day, but at least the weather we're repeating is pretty nice, it could be worse!

We're looking at another mostly sunny day, with highs a bit warmer than your Saturday by about 5 or so degrees. Most everyone should get into the 70s, minus the immediate Lake Huron coastal areas of northeast Michigan and the Lake Superior coastal areas, you'll stay in the mid to upper 60s.

Areas in the southwest U.P. closer to Wisconsin will get back up into the lower 80s for your Sunday.

We don't have any real chances for rain in sight until we get into at least the middle of next week, so more days like today are in store.

Have a great Sunday!

With very dry conditions, take extra care with campfires (if permitted) and be cautious with anything that could start a fire.
