📰 EAST ST. LOUIS, IL…State Representative Kevin Schmidt (R-Millstadt) continues to donate his legislative pay raise to local organizations across his district. He voted against politician pay raises and chose to help less fortunate families in our community. This month, he donated soap, paper towels, and toilet paper to Jeremiah's Food Pantry in East St. Louis.

“Stronger communities are built when we come together to help families in need,” said Schmidt. “I’m proud to work with local food pantries across my district and appreciate the volunteer work by members of our community. Lending a helping hand can make a difference in so many lives.”

Jeremiah's Food Pantry is located at 538 S. 35th St. in East St. Louis, IL and is open to the public for anyone who wants to donate non-perishable food items.

Our first responders go to great lengths to keep our communities safe. We must ensure they have adequate funding for small equipment, turnout gear, and fire truck expenses.

While grant funding helps small-town fire departments and volunteers, the high cost of equipment and repairs continue to cause financial burdens. I will continue to advocate for addition funding for our first responders because they need our support to keep residents safe in our community.

I voted yes on SB2645, a bill that allows volunteer fire departments to apply for and receive state grants through the Office of the Illinois State Fire Marshal.

Children must return to school. Cahokia Heights School District 187 needs to explain why 900 students were unenrolled and what steps they are taking to immediately remedy the issue. As students fall behind and parents scramble for childcare, this is quickly becoming a public safety concern. I’ve called on the State Board of Education to step in to provide transparency and solutions.

The parents of these children deserve answers.

Meanwhile, district officials are not providing answers.

I co-sponsored legislation that creates protections for our students serving in the United States military. SB3737 creates the 'Servicemember Education Rights Veneration Act' to protect students who must leave college for military service.

This legislation ensures Illinois students can proudly serve their country without sacrificing their education by providing up to 5 years of military leave and protecting their right to return to school.

I will continue to advocate for our servicemembers and their families who make sacrifices to protect our country.

✅ The Governor has signed this bill into law.

Schmidt met with owners Joe Morrison and Michelle Morrison to present them with an official certificate of recognition from the Illinois House of Representatives.

“This family-owned ice cream shop is as authentic as they come,” said Schmidt. “They offer a wide variety of menu options that cater to everyone, and their service is outstanding. Owner Joe and his employees prioritize their customers and are committed to ensuring everyone leaves with a smile on their face.”

Walton’s Ice Cream and More is a family-owned ice cream shop that has been serving the Smithton community since 2017, offering affordable treats and meals the whole family can enjoy. The shop offers a variety of treats, including Prairie Farms traditional soft-serve ice cream flavors, specialty concretes, shakes and options for those with dairy intolerances. Its food menu also includes burgers, Nathan’s hot dogs, BBQ pulled pork, grilled chicken Caesar wraps and other specialty options.
