Our friends at the New Brighton Historical Society have an exciting summer art exhibition which will open at 1 p.m. Friday, June 5 at the Merrick Art Gallery, 1100 5th Ave, New Brighton. It will feature the work of Emil Bott: Beaver County’s Forgotten Artistic Treasure. In the 1800’s, Bott painted and drew many Beaver County landscapes and scenes of everyday life, and his paintings, lithographs and publications have been treasured in many family homes and in private collections. The historical society has been able to work with many people to bring his artwork together for everyone to enjoy this summer. Gallery hours are Wednesday through Friday, 11 a.m. to 4 p.m.; Saturday, 11 a.m. to 5 p.m.; and Sunday, noon to 4 p.m. This summer exhibition is open to the public, and there is no charge to attend.

Though it was originally built as a school, the structure functioned as a railway station for a time, serving several railroads between 1883 and 1972. The structure is one of the oldest structures to have ever been used as a station. Notable alumni of the school were abolitionist John Brown, Walter Forward, John White Geary, Daniel Leasure, William Holmes McGuffey. The Little Beaver Historical Society currently maintains the structure...
