This week, members participated in two training drills focused on engine company operations. The first drill, conducted on Thursday night, was our monthly training session where all three engines utilized handlines with our new nozzles. Members also practiced relay pumping and transitioning from tank water to a hydrant water supply. The second drill, held this morning, involved Engine 1575 joining other Western Monmouth companies for a pipeline training exercise designed to move large volumes of water from a hydrant to a distant fire scene.

On Friday, Chief 1566, Engine 1575 with a crew of 5 and Ladder 1590 with a crew of 6 responded into East Freehold Fire Company’s district on the mutual aid box assignment for a structure fire on East Freehold Road. Crews assisted with fire suppression, search and ventilation. During the operations, a MAYDAY was transmitted for one of our firefighters. This firefighter was quickly removed and we are happy to report had only minor injuries and was released from the hospital that night.

Last night the department attended the Monmouth County Fire Marshal's Office and Fire Academy for our first live burn of the year. Joining us was Freehold Township Ind. Fire Company #1 and East Freehold Fire Company.

Working alongside our mutual aid partners is paramount for honing our skills and working together to better perform at emergencies. Thank you to the outstanding academy staff for a great evening of training.

Mulch Safety & The "18-Inch Rule"

🪵 Refreshing your landscaping this weekend? Before you spread that new mulch, remember the 18-inch rule!

🪏Keep Your Distance: Reminder to keep combustible mulch at least 18 inches away from your home's foundation to prevent fires from jumping to your siding as a safety caution.
🪏The Stone Solution: Use non-combustible materials like river rock or pea gravel in that 18-inch "buffer zone".
🪏Don't Pile High: Keep mulch layers between 2 to 4 inches deep. Piles thicker than 6 inches can actually trap heat and spontaneously combust.
