Good afternoon, everyone. Please note that tomorrow (Saturday, August 22) is the annual Emilio Ranieri motorcycle run hosted by the Freeland American Legion Riders. This is a charitable event benefitting a local individual currently experiencing some major challenges in life. The ride registration begins at 9am tomorrow and kickstands are up at noon. In preparation for this, the 500 block of Centre Street (between South Street and Main Street) will be CLOSED TO TRAFFIC beginning at 8:00am to allow for event participant parking and to ensure the safety of pedestrians attending. In the event the attendance exceeds expectations, the parking restriction MAY then include the 600 block of Centre Street (between Main Street and Front Street). Signs will be posted today (our street sweeping and snow ban signs) in preparation of the event. Enforcement (possible towing) of the parking restriction will not begin until after 8am tomorrow. We'd love to see this take place without incident, so please try to keep vehicles cleared from the area until after the ride returns and all participating vehicles are safely parked. A white and tan female pit mix pooch is currently at our station after running at large. The owner can pick up the dog - bring identification, proof of ownership, current dog license and vaccination records. Transportation to the Hazleton Animal Shelter will take place if the dog is not claimed.

Sometimes the calls are a welcomed variety. This afternoon, a concerned driver came to the Borough building because a kitten was seen using the vehicle as a playground. Obviously scared from something, the little critter chose to play hide and seek on the framework and components of the vehicle's undercarriage. Being apprehensive to come out on its own and the officer being unable to reach the kitten, Pollack's Towing was contacted. With the assistance of their rollback, the vehicle was lifted high enough off of the ground to be better able to reach to where the kitten was seeking protection. With a little encouragement (snacks) and some Twister moves from Nick and the Chief, the kitten came out of hiding...then ran into a nearby yard where it was much easier to capture and bring to safety. We hope for the best life for this little one. Thanks again to Pollack's Towing for the assistance!

LOUD MUSIC AND NEIGHBORHOOD COMPLAINTS

In the night hours of June 6th, 2026, Officers were dispatched to the 500 blocks of Walnut Street and Johnson Street for reports of loud music in the area. Officers contacted the adult occupants at the source of the loud music and requested it be turned down due to complaints as well as the officer on scene determining the volume to be unreasonable. After initially turning the music down and prior to police leaving the scene, the music was turned up to excessive levels again. As a result, criminal (misdemeanor) disorderly conduct charges have been filed against Juan Pablo SANTANA-ACOSTA and Ivette Janessy ROSA-GARCIA for unreasonable noise. Preliminary hearing dates are scheduled in District Court for both individuals.

**ALL INDIVIDUALS CHARGED ARE PRESUMED INNOCENT UNTIL PROVEN GUILTY IN COURT**

**Citations or criminal charges will continue to be filed against persons being responsible for creating neighborhood disturbances such as this. Everyone is entitled to a quality of life that should not be continually disrupted by neighbors who simply don't seem to want to be "neighborly". Criminal charges (above citations) arise based on either failure to resolve the disturbance at that time or for repeat responses to the same location, involving the same people, multiple times.

On June 6, 2026, this offense will be punishable by a $50 fine.
Effective Midnight tonight.

Effective: June 5, 2025 - 75 Pa.C.S.A. § 3316.1. Prohibiting use of interactive mobile device, a summary offense is created, making it illegal to use an interactive mobile device while driving a motor vehicle with the exception of communicating with law enforcement or emergency services to prevent injury to persons or property. The section apples to vehicles who are temporarily stopped in the traffic flow due to traffic jams or traffic control devices. (it does not apply to those who have pulled safely out of the flow of traffic). Prohibited behavior includes holding, dialing with more than one button, or reaching in a manner that requires one to become unseated or unseatbelted.

a. Only warnings may be issued from June 5, 2025, until 5, 2026.
b. On June 5, 2026, this offense will be punishable by a $50 fine.
c. 3316.1(d) specifically supersedes and preempts any local ordinances.

This applies even if you are stopped at a red light...

On Thursday, June 11, 2026, the PA Dog Warden and authorized associates will be in our area conducting checks with dog owners to verify that they are properly licensed and vaccinated. Some dogs will be checked based on recent reports/complaints, and others may be checked based upon past records. Some may be randomly encountered and checked to be sure everything is up to date. This notice is being made in order to be transparent and to publicly notify of the activity.

Isn't this just one of the cutest things? We think so, and we understand that as humans, we feel the need to intervene to "protect" them from what we believe to be a danger (abandonment, illness, injury, etc.) when often it's simply nature doing it's thing. Yesterday, a good-hearted citizen brought a brand spankin' new fawn to us because they felt it was in danger. Thankfully, the fawn showed no sign of injury, did not exhibit signs of dehydration, and had no insect infestation. The little fella simply decided to "explore" a little and got himself noticed. We immediately reached out to Pocono Wildlife Rehabilitation and Education Center, gave the details, and determined the best course of action, which then allowed the fawn to be able to thrive once again. We encourage everyone who follows us to also follow Pocono Wildlife Rehabilitation and Education Center. They are the experts in wildlife rescue and they're our "go to" when we have critter calls that we need guidance with. Please remember - fawns WILL be left alone for HOURS while the doe is off feeding and doing "mama" things...she WILL, in almost all cases, be back to care for the fawn. Young (raccoons, opossums, fox, skunks) all need the same protections, so PLEASE DO NOT TOUCH THEM or try to relocate them without first consulting folks who are versed in such handling. Always feel free to contact us if you have such a situation so we can come out to check on it and determine the best course of action - or contact Pocono Wildlife directly. This pupper was found running in the 100 block of Centre Street earlier. This situation was reported to the White Haven Police and the dog has been taken to the Hazleton Animal Shelter to be cared for until the rightful owner claims it.

Good morning, Freeland! Today is the day. If you or someone you know has a dog that does NOT yet have their 2026 County issued license, then send them to the Borough Administration Building at 526 Fern Street. Representatives from the Luzerne County Licensing Bureau are here, as is the PA State Dog Warden. Questions or concerns about dogs in your neighborhood that you would like to address? Stop by and have a chat. Remember, dogs found to be unlicensed and/or without proper vaccinations, as well as dogs running at large or not under control, are subject to receiving a citation either under state law or Borough ordinance. Let's make this event a success, all around, by taking at least this step in the right direction to avoid a potential hassle later.

Yesterday, our department investigated a neighborhood complaint in the upper portion of Walnut Street. As a result of the investigation, it was discovered that a homeowner was deceased inside their residence. There are no suspicious circumstances surrounding this event. Police were assisted at the scene by the Freeland Fire Department and Freeland Code Enforcement.
