🎇 Fireworks Safety
• Enjoy fireworks from a safe distance.
• Leave fireworks to the professionals—illegal fireworks and sparklers can cause serious injuries.
• Keep children away from fireworks and supervise them at all times.
• Bring pets indoors, as loud noises can cause fear and anxiety.

🍔 Grilling Safety
• Use grills outdoors and away from your home or other structures.
• Place grills on a stable, level surface.
• Inspect your grill for leaks or damage before use.
• Never leave a lit grill unattended.
• Keep a fire extinguisher nearby and know how to use it.

🌡️ EXTREME HEAT SAFETY REMINDER 🌡️

With dangerous temperatures expected, please take steps to protect yourself, your family, and your neighbors.

If you do not have access to air conditioning or need relief from the heat, Nassau County has opened Cooling Centers for residents.

💧 Heat Safety Tips:
• Stay hydrated by drinking plenty of water.
• Limit outdoor activity during the hottest part of the day.
• Wear lightweight, light-colored clothing.
• Never leave children or pets in a parked vehicle.
• Check on elderly neighbors, family members, and anyone who may be vulnerable to the heat.

If you experience signs of heat exhaustion or heat stroke, seek medical attention immediately or call 911 in an emergency.

The Freeport Police would like to make residents aware that PSEG Long Island will be conducting aerial (helicopter) inspections of utility infrastructure throughout their service territory from June 8, 2026 through June 19, 2026.

During this time, residents may notice a low-flying helicopter in the area as crews inspect power lines and utility assets to help ensure the continued reliability of electric service.

In 2025, the Freeport Police Department was honored to be recognized by MADD as the Department of the Year for our commitment to removing impaired drivers from our roadways.

This summer, we’re building on that effort.

Dedicated DWI enforcement patrols will be deployed throughout the Village all summer long. These patrols will focus on identifying and removing impaired drivers before tragedy strikes.

Our message is simple: If you drink, don’t drive.

Plan ahead. Use a designated driver. Call a taxi or rideshare. Make arrangements before your first drink.

Together, we can keep our roads safe and prevent impaired driving crashes before they happen.
