Stephenson County Highway Department The Stephenson County Highway Department is responsible for the maintenance of 210 miles of highways.

Some of the major activities that we accomplish are:
Snow/ice control
Patching
Resurfacing
Culvert repair/replacement
Ditch cleaning
W**d control

Road Open
Per Waddams Township, Unity Rd between Cedarville Rd and Range Rd is now back open.

Just a friendly reminder

Road Construction:
We will be starting construction on Tuesday September 1 on Cedarville Rd between Galena Rd/Stagecoach Rd to approximately 1 mile east on Cedarville Rd. While construction is being done, the road will be closed to thru traffic at Galena Rd to Unity Rd. Local traffic will be able to pass. We will then have the road open to local traffic while the road is curing, which will depend on weather. Once the road is cured, we will put hot mix down.

We will be starting construction on Thursday September 3 on Dakota Rd between IL 75 and Knaup Rd. While construction is being done, the road will be closed to thru traffic at IL 75 to Knaup Rd. Local traffic will be able to pass. We will then have the road open to local traffic while the road is curing, which will depend on weather. Once the road is cured, we will put hot mix down.

Road Closure Monday August 31, 2026:
We will be closing Cedarville Rd between Rock City Rd and Brown Rd to replace a cuvlert. We are hoping to have it open by 4 pm Monday August 31, 2026.

Road Construction:
We are beginning road construction (Cold in Place Recycling) on Orangeville Road between Damascus Rd and IL 26. Road will be down to 1 lane of traffic throughout the project in certain areas. We are hoping construction will be done by end of the week.

Road Open -

Dakota Rd is back open.

Dakota Rd between Angle and Knaup Rd will be closed today and possibly tomorrow for a culvert replacement.

ROAD CLOSURE
Unity Rd between Cedarville Rd and Range Rd will be closed for approximately a month per Waddams Township.

Rock City Rd is now open. Thank you for your patience.

Road Closure:
With the rain today, we will not be able to finish the culvert today so Rock City Rd will remain closed. We are hoping to have it back open tomorrow afternoon. We apologize for any inconvenience this may cause.

We will be working on Rock City Rd between IL 75 and McConnell Road on Monday August 10 and Tuesday August 11, so the road will be closed during this time. We apologize for any inconvenience this may cause, but hope to have the road back open Tuesday afternoon.
