Evette Sanchez was born in East Meadow, NY to Cuban immigrant parents, Emilio and Sonia. She also has 2 siblings, Jesus and George Sanchez. Her family resided in Rockville Centre until they moved to Freeport when she was 12 years old. Evette and her siblings were raised in their family business, a bodega named “La Finquita Grocery”, which was one of the first Hispanic grocery stores in Freeport. After school, it was straight to the bodega to help out their parents. To this day, people still ask her, “Aren’t you Sonia and Emilio’s daughter?” They never remembered her name, but still knew who she was. Evette attended Jr. High School at Our Holy Redeemer, then went on to Freeport High School, where she graduated in 1981. She continued her education at Nassau Community College, where she majored in business. From 1983 through 1985, she worked at the Economic Opportunity Coalition (EOC), assisting the Hispanic community. Evette started her Civil Service career in the Freeport Village Court as a clerk from 1985 through 1990. After which, she went to work for the Garden City Police Department as a Police dispatcher and at the Garden City Justice Court. In 2000, she was asked to return to the Freeport Village Court to be the office Supervisor/Chief Clerk. Evette Sanchez was the Chief Clerk for the Freeport Village Court for the past 20 years, until her retirement in August of 2020. During that time, she held the positions of Recording Secretary, Vice President and then President of the Nassau/Suffolk Magistrates Court Clerks Association. She was the proud and deserving recipient of the Village of Freeport Hispanic Heritage Award in 2013 and the Town of Hempstead Hispanic Heritage Award in 2015. Her entire career has been serving the public, which is something very important to her. Evette does, and will continue to serve her Freeport community. If she can assist in any way, she will do her best to help. Evette and her husband, Randy Aguirre reside in the Village of Freeport.
