Freer, TX - the City of Freer Police Department and Public Works Department executed an administrative search warrant to clear the debris and have plans to soon demolish substandard structures along the Buckaroo Block (East Ave).

These structures continue to pose a safety hazard to the public and our schools by harboring illegal activities such as the use of narcotics.

Property owners will continue to be held accountable and fined for these violations.

We’d like to thank the public works department for being committed to assisting us in addressing these public nuisances.

I am honored to have been chosen as the Chief of Police for the Freer Police Department. I would like to express my gratitude to Mayor Martin Martinez Jr Freer, TX, Alderman Roy Salazar, Alderman Fernando Carballeira, Alderman Lando Hinojosa, Alderman Carlos Salinas, and Alderwoman Debbie Martinez for the trust and confidence that has been placed in me to lead our department and its officers in serving and protecting our community.

As I take on this new role, I accept the challenges that we face, particularly in combating the increasing drug problem that not only continues to destroy individual lives and families but also undermines the safety and security of our entire community. Under my leadership, the Freer Police Department will be committed to working with local, state, and federal law enforcement partners to disrupt the infrastructure that enables drug-related activities to thrive.

Furthermore, I recognize the importance of creating a safe environment for our schools. Our children deserve to learn and grow in an environment free from the influence of drugs and violence. Both of which I have zero tolerance for. I will continue to work with school administrators to implement safety measures and prevention programs that will safeguard our students and promote a positive learning environment.

Lastly, I will implement community policing initiatives that build trust and collaboration with our residents. By engaging with members of our community, we will empower our community to play an active role in preventing crime and promoting a safer Freer.

I am committed to leading the Freer Police Department with integrity, transparency, and dedication to serving our community. I encourage anyone having questions or concerns regarding our department or community to contact me directly.

Thank you,

Chief Rolando Flores

On July 13, 2024, at or around 5:54 a.m., the Freer Police Department received a 9-1-1 call for service in reference to a suspicious male knocking at the front door of a residence located at the 100 block of S. Sun Ave.

Upon Lt. Flores' arrival, a Hispanic male subject wearing a black hoodie and blue jeans was observed standing on the front porch looking into the residence.

Upon further on scene investigation, it was determined the male identified as Christian Ruvalcaba Salas, a Mexican national residing in Giddings, Texas was not known to the homeowners. In attempting to place the subject under arrest, the subject began resisting arrest and transport. During the physical altercation, Lt. Flores lost radio communication with Freer PD Dispatch and was able to request further assistance by utilizing his cell phone's emergency 9-1-1 service to request further assistance.

Christian Ruvalcaba Salas was eventually placed under arrest and has since been charged with Criminal Trespass Class A Misdemeanor, Resisting Arrest/Search/Transport Class A Misdemeanor, Unlawful Carrying of Weapon Class A Misdemeanor, Assault Peace Officer 2nd Degree Felony.

A firearm belonging to Christian Ruvalcaba Salas was also recovered on scene.

Upon conducting a database check of the above referenced subject, it was determined the subject has an outstanding warrant out of Mexico for Sexual Assault of a Child and is pending extradition status.

We would like to thank the United States Border Patrol Freer Station for immediate response to our request for assistance and the Duval County Sheriff's Office.

This is a reminder of the dangers faced by law enforcement each day. No task is devoid of danger. Be aware of your surroundings, report any suspicious activity.
