The Freer Police Department would like to extend a special thank you to Onsitedecals, for working closely with us on the new designs for our patrol fleet.

These newly designed units will begin hitting the road soon and were made possible through funding associated with Operation Lone Star, meaning these vehicles were acquired without placing the financial burden on our local taxpayers or the Cityโ€™s General Fund.

We also extend our appreciation to Cantu Wrecker Service for assisting us in transporting these units for us.

The Freer Police Department has received an increasing number of complaints involving dogs running at large throughout our community.

Under the City of Freer Code of Ordinances, allowing a dog to run at large is a violation of law. Additionally, owners are reminded that Texas Penal Code ยง 42.092 โ€“ Cruelty to Non-livestock Animals makes it a criminal offense to intentionally, knowingly, or recklessly fail to provide necessary food, water, care, or shelter, abandon an animal, or otherwise subject an animal to cruel treatment.

๐„๐Ÿ๐Ÿ๐ž๐œ๐ญ๐ข๐ฏ๐ž ๐ข๐ฆ๐ฆ๐ž๐๐ข๐š๐ญ๐ž๐ฅ๐ฒ, ๐ง๐จ ๐ฐ๐š๐ซ๐ง๐ข๐ง๐ ๐ฌ ๐ฐ๐ข๐ฅ๐ฅ ๐›๐ž ๐ข๐ฌ๐ฌ๐ฎ๐ž๐.

Owners of dogs found running at large will be issued citations. Arrests will be made when applicable by law. Animal cruelty complaints will be thoroughly investigated, and criminal charges will be pursued whenever probable cause exists. Animals found in dangerous or neglectful conditions may be seized in accordance with Texas law.

Responsible pet ownership is not optional. Keeping your pets properly confined protects them from injury, prevents attacks on people and other animals, and helps maintain the safety and quality of life within our community.

On behalf of Chief Rolando Flores and the Freer Police Department, we extend our congratulations to District Attorney Gocha Allen Ramirez, First Assistant District Attorney Alexandria Barrera, Assistant District Attorney Roxanna Ramirez, and the entire 229th Judicial District Attorneyโ€™s Office on securing the conviction of Luis Daniel Rodriguez, Jr. for the murder of Denise Godsey Decoteau, resulting in a 50-year sentence in the Texas Department of Criminal Justice.

This conviction is a testament to the unwavering dedication, professionalism, and perseverance of the prosecutors, investigators, forensic specialists, and every law enforcement agency that worked tirelessly over the course of this investigation.

The Freer Police Department is honored to have played a role alongside our law enforcement partners, including the Texas Rangers, United States Border Patrol, Homeland Security Investigations, and the Duval County Sheriffโ€™s Office. We are grateful for the collaboration that helped bring this case to a successful conclusion.

Most importantly, our thoughts remain with the family and loved ones of Denise Decoteau. While no sentence can undo the profound loss they have endured, we hope todayโ€™s outcome provides a measure of justice and continued healing.

On Sunday, July 26, 2026, the Freer Police Department K-9 Unit responded to a request for assistance from the Federal Correctional Institution โ€“ Three Rivers in support of efforts to detect and prevent the introduction of contraband into the correctional facility.

During the operation, Freer Police Department K-9 Officer Zeke Ortiz and his K-9 partner successfully located and intercepted numerous items of contraband, including:

โ€ข (10) Packs of Backwoods Ci**rs
โ€ข (100) Creatine Pills
โ€ข Various additional prohibited jail contraband
