Stop by Shinn Historical Park & Arboretum on Saturday to purchase arts & crafts items, enjoy the Hawaiian entertainment, and tour the house (donation of $5). Kids can make a Tiny House paint a rock, or do a scavenger hunt. Take in some more local history with the Chinese Roots exhibit and visit the Chinese Bunkhouse in the barn yard. The Museum's 250th posters will be on display. Get your photos take in front of the Fageol bus from the Pacific Bus Museum.

Shinn Park holds summer arts and crafts day: Fremont’s newest historical site holds tours and hosts vendors

One-hundred-seventy years ago (as of yesterday), James and Lucy Shinn and two children arrived in California on the SS Golden Age. They started their journey from Round Rock Texas and crossed the Isthmus of Panama. They arrived in San Francisco at 3:00 pm. They probably stayed with Lucy's brother, Dr. Clark, in San Francisco. Some weeks later, they moved onto their land on the south bank of Alameda Creek.

A day of history and fun at Shinn Park. Follow Shinn Historical Park & Arboretum for more details and updates.Shinn Park is the latest property in Fremont to be listed on the National Register of Historic Places. The house is 150 years old and the Shinn family came here 170 years ago in 1856.

Discover the history of Alvarado
Walking tour teaches about historic buildings
Local historian Timothy Swenson will lead a historical walking tour of Alvarado on Saturday, June 20. This half-mile tour will take about 90 minutes. The route will take tourgoers through old Alvarado, while Swenson shares details about 43 historic buildings, many of which are now gone.

The tour is free, with a suggested tour donation of $5 per person or $10 per family. A coordinating tour booklet with historical photographs will be provided. For those who would like to download a copy of the booklet before or after the tour, it’s available online at: museumoflocalhistory.org/contact/adult-tours/.
