On the Thursday before Valentine's Day, the CSB Workshop hosted a pop-up shop and plant sale, featuring merchandise designed and produced by students. Offerings included CSB mugs, t-shirts, hats, keychains, Valentine's Day greeting cards, and succulents in decorated pots. We're proud of our student workers who helped prepare for and execute this super fun event!

CSB students created tactile artworks by carving directly into cork sheets using a pen, pressing lines and textures into the surface rather than drawing traditionally. With access to stencils, leaves, flowers, plants, and other tactile oddities for inspiration, the project centers touch as a tool for creativity and accessibility, resulting in expressive works that can be experienced through both sight and feel.

Celebrating Lunar New Year with service! 🧧 Our CSB students supported the TCV Food Bank in Fremont this week, helping distribute food to community members as part of their work experience program.

Students at CSB are building more than wooden trains, cars, and coin banks — they’re building confidence, independence, and real-world skills.

In our Expanded Core Curriculum (ECC) elective “Tool Time”, students gain hands-on experience using tools safely and effectively. They practice measuring, hammering, assembling, and problem-solving — all while creating projects they can proudly take home.

Last week, we welcomed Googlers from multiple accessibility teams to our campus. They toured classrooms, learned about our programs, and saw what our students accomplish every day with assistive technology.

Our annual Staff ‘Soup-er Bowl’ Social was a wonderful (and delicious!) way to come together ahead of Super Bowl weekend. Thank you to everyone who brought in their favorite soups, sides, and treats — and helped make this year’s tradition so special!

This week, CSB students are exploring Sumi ink painting as a way to experiment with expressive mark-making, contrast, and composition. Students are working with traditional sumi brushes alongside printer ink, foam printing, and stamping tools such as flowers, leaves, and textured materials. Circular compositions encourage thoughtful use of negative space, balance, and movement. Students practice techniques including wet-on-wet brushwork, ink bleed, splatter, and layered printing to observe how ink flows and interacts with paper. The resulting monochromatic artworks combine bold gestures with delicate details and splashes of colors, emphasizing texture, rhythm, and intentional design.

This week, students are exploring resin casting. Each piece is made by placing a variety of craft materials into clear resin, including artificial flowers, cork, buttons, plastic beads, sequins, glitter, foam shapes, bottle caps, small plastic pieces, painted elements, sticks, and other small found objects. Some pieces resemble tiny floral arrangements, with colorful flowers extending upward, while others are more compact and textured, built from layered or clustered materials. The clear resin gives the work a smooth, glossy finish and holds everything in place, resulting in colorful, textured mini artworks full of creativity and hands-on discovery.

This week, CSB students will finish their ceramic greenware with glossy and crystalline glazes. A glaze fire in the kiln will bring the ceramics to life, revealing bold colors similar to the blue train pieces, green mushroom landscape, and playful pink and red characters pictured. Made from earthenware with touches of glass, marbles, crystals, and enamels, these pieces show students how glaze and fire can transform clay into vibrant, textured artwork.
