✨ THE MUSTANG PROJECT ✨

Join us tomorrow, Tuesday, at 4:00 p.m. Mountain Time inside West Taylor’s Online Academy for an incredibly special Mustang journey

Special guest Inez Throm will be sharing the beautiful story of her journey with her mustang, Tuxedo. 🖤🐴

When Inez adopted Tuxedo years ago, she wasn’t sure if she would ever be able to ride him. But with patience, no expectations, and years of learning and training their relationship continued to grow.

And now…they are riding out on the trail together. ✨

This is what can happen when we slow down, create safety, stay curious, and allow connection & communication to lead the way.

We would love to have you join us inside the Academy to hear firsthand from Inez about the incredible journey she and Tuxedo have shared. This is one Mustang story you won’t want to miss!

Tuesday • 4:00 p.m. Mountain Time

When I was a kid, I couldn’t WAIT to be done with school. Little me thought 7:30 was cruel and unusual punishment. 🤣

I was so excited for the day I wouldn’t have to wake up early in the morning anymore. 😂

No alarm clock.
No school bus.
No getting up before I was ready.

Fast forward a few decades…

Now 5:00 AM rolls around and Grown-up me is all about watching the sunrise over the ranch, having coffee with Ms Kami Sue, checking horses, moving pipe, hauling hay, traveling around working with mustangs… and somehow loving this crazy little Wild West life we created.

Turns out I didn’t grow up and escape early mornings…

I just traded the school bell for the horse whinny 🤎🐴🌅

And honestly, I think I got a pretty great deal.

This past weekend held something sacred.

Kami just wrapped up her 11th year facilitating drum making at the Mountain Air Ancient Way retreat — and this was the final year the group will be gathering at this venue, with these facilitators, in this way.

Eleven years of showing people how to build their own iconic sound healing medicine drum. Eleven years of watching strangers become family over a weekend. This one held extra weight, knowing it was the last time.

So much growth. So many breakthroughs. So many moments of pure human-to-human connection as each person shaped something that will carry their sound for the rest of their life.

I got to be there too — not leading, just supporting. Kami pours so much into me and into our world of horsemanship, so it's a joy to flip the roles for a weekend and just be her hands and her steady presence while she does what she was born to do. Watching her follow her passion and guide a room full of open hearts is one of my favorite things to witness.

Humbled and grateful doesn't even cover it. Thank you to everyone who showed up, built a drum, and let us be part of your weekend.

**On the road to Idaho, and a reminder that intuition always has a plan.**

We spent the night in Salt Lake City in the box truck, on our way north to the women's retreat where Kami will be leading a drum making ceremony this weekend. Quick stop at Walmart for last-minute supplies, and as we got back to the truck to make breakfast, this urge kept nagging at me. I just wanted to get out and move my body before the drive.

Normally I'd have brushed it off. Gotta get on the road, right? But it wouldn't let up. So I pulled up Google Maps, found a park three minutes away, and said let's go.

We parked, made breakfast, sat under the pavilion. And then people started showing up — yoga mats, blankets, water bottles — all heading toward the shade of this huge tree. A yoga class. Right here, right now.

I looked at Kami. "You wanna do this?" "Hell yeah."

She walked over to one of the guys and asked if we could join. Without hesitation — yes, of course. She mentioned she only had one mat. He walked to his car and pulled out a spare like he'd been waiting for someone to need it.

His name was Spencer.

We got to move, breathe, and stretch in community with total strangers who felt like old friends, all because of a feeling I almost talked myself out of.

A special shoutout to Mitch, who taught the class. He kept telling us how grateful he was that we made it that day — like he somehow knew we were supposed to be there.

Here's what Mitch reminded me: we are powerful creators with our thoughts. But a thought alone doesn't manifest anything. You have to follow it. You have to trust the subtle nudge, give yourself permission to pause, to feel, to be — without the agenda of what's ahead.

*"I'm just so grateful you guys made it here today." — Mitch, the yoga guy*

Took the box truck into Hatch's shop in Nephi, Utah this week to get checked out — we'd been noticing some funky wear on the driver's side steer tire and wanted to get ahead of it.

Hatch himself did the work on our truck, and this guy was an absolute professional. He knew everything about suspension, everything about tires. I got underneath the truck with him and just started asking questions, and he walked me through all the points of failure, what to watch for with this type of suspension, how everything was wearing. Genuinely comforting to be able to pick the brain of someone who knows that much about what's holding us up out here.

Gave him a tour of the truck afterward and he said honestly it looks like a commercial cold storage truck from the outside — had no idea what was going on inside. Fun moment.

Good news all around. The alignment was just a little off and now it's dialed in, right on the money. The tire wear turned out to be more about age than anything else — those tires are five years old, and the rubber's just starting to soften and break down at that point. He thinks we've got a few more months before we need a replacement, but we'll keep a close eye on it.

Feels really good to be back on the road knowing the truck's been gone through top to bottom by someone who actually knows this platform. If you're ever near Nephi and need alignment work done, can't recommend Hatch enough.

Next stop, Idaho. This one's not an SBH trip for me — Cami is facilitating a drum making ceremony for fourteen women at a retreat near Burley, Idaho, and I'm along as support staff for her this time. Beautiful change of pace getting to support her in her craft and her passion instead of the other way around. More to come from Idaho.

Trust. Love. Respect.

Three words I want to remove from horsemanship.

Not because they aren’t real. They are real, and they matter deeply in human relationships. But horses are not built to experience trust, love, or respect the way we do. Those words come from a human nervous system, a human brain, human attachment. When we bring them into the relationship with our horse, we start treating our horse like a person, and that is where things break down.

I hear it all the time. My horse doesn’t trust me. My horse doesn’t respect my space. I just want my horse to love me. And because of those beliefs, people start handling and interacting with their horse based on human definitions that don’t apply to the horse in front of them.

Here’s what I offer instead.

Instead of wanting your horse to love you, ask: can my horse feel safe with me?

Instead of wanting your horse to respect your space, ask: am I enforcing boundaries?

Instead of wanting your horse to trust you, ask: is my horse finding safety with me?

Same intention. Different biology. Different questions.

What did your horse have to teach you about you?

It’s one of my favorite questions to ask, in clinics, in one-on-one sessions, from the stage. It slows people down. It moves them out of telling and making things happen, into a quieter place where learning can come back the other way, from the horse to the human.

Take a few moments with this one. Maybe a couple of deep breaths first. Just look at the horse.

What do you feel this horse is telling you about you?

07/31/2026

Your horse isn't misbehaving. He's reacting.
There's a real difference, and it changes everything about how you train.
A reaction is automatic, his nervous system firing before his brain even catches up. A response is a choice, what happens once he's actually had a second to think.
Here's the mistake I see all the time: people reward the reaction. The spook, the bolt, the bracing, that's what gets all the attention and pressure. But the moment he actually settles and thinks? Gets skipped right past.
Flip it. Train on the reactions. Reward the responses.
That one shift is the difference between a horse who's just surviving the moment and a horse who's actually learning to trust himself.

At the end of a twelve hour day at the Mustang Recovery Challenge, Woody asked if he could sit down with me for fifteen minutes. He is writing a life sketch book, and wanted to include some questions for me in it.

We found a quiet spot behind the barn, away from the other clinic participants. My feet were tired. I was ready to be done presenting and teaching for the day. But I could feel the drive behind his ask, and I knew what it took for him to make it. So I sat down, took a breath, and let myself come out of teacher mode.

I met him the way I meet every horse I work with. Quietly. Right where he was at.

Woody was in a soul moment. A heart moment. He wasn’t looking for a lesson. He wanted an emotional connection, someone willing to slow down and be present with him.

This is something I talk about often, the regulation we carry inside ourselves is what allows these moments to happen. Moments like this can’t be created. They can only be allowed.
