Tonight, our members trained on maximizing water supply operations through a "heavy hydrant hookup" evolution. Crews utilized all three outlets on a single fire hydrant to supply the engine and demonstrated how using one, two, and then three supply lines affects friction loss, available pressure, and overall water delivery.

By the end of the evening, crews were able to achieve approximately 2,600 gallons per minute from a single hydrant. Members then transitioned into relay pumping operations utilizing multiple supply lines between apparatus to further move large volumes of water efficiently.

Training like this helps our firefighters better understand the capabilities of our water system, the importance of large diameter hose operations, utilizing parallel lines, and how to maximize available resources safely during a large scale fire incident.

A huge thank you to the Fremont Fire Department for assisting with tonight's training and helping make it a success!

Today, we pause to honor and remember the brave men and women of the United States Armed Forces who made the ultimate sacrifice in service to our nation.

Memorial Day is is more than the start of summer; it is a day of reflection, gratitude, and remembrance who never made it home. Their courage and selflessness secured the freedoms we enjoy every day.

As we spend time with family and friends today, we ask our community to take a moment to remember the fallen and the families they left behind.

From all of us at Ballville Volunteer Fire Department, thank you to those who gave everything for this country.

Last night members of the Ballville Volunteer Fire Department trained on a crucial, and often overlooked, rural fireground skill: drafting water from a static source.

While many areas rely on fire hydrants, Ballville Township presents a unique challenge. We protect a mix of suburban neighborhoods with fire hydrants and rural areas without them. That means our firefighters must be ready to establish their own water supply, quickly and efficiently, when fire hydrants are not available.

During training the crews worked on:
-Setting up and establishing a water supply through shuttles and portable ponds
-Setting up and operating pumps to pull water from the portable pond
-Single and Dual drafting operations
-Hands on pump operation for our newer members to build confidence and proficiency

These skills are essential to ensuring we can deliver a reliable water supply no matter where an emergency occurs.

Training like this ensures that when the call comes in, regardless of where in the township, we are ready.

Ballville Volunteer Fire Department remains committed to protecting our community through continuous trainings and preparation.

⚠️ Flooded Roadways – Public Safety Reminder ⚠️

Due to recent heavy rainfall, many roads in our area are currently flooded or impassable. Barricades and road closure signs are placed for your safety and are not optional.

Earlier today, our department responded to a water rescue involving a vehicle that attempted to drive through a flooded roadway.

Please remember:

Do not drive around barricades or through standing water
The depth and current of floodwater are often impossible to judge
Just a small amount of moving water can carry away a vehicle

When drivers ignore road closures, it places not only themselves at risk, but also the responders who must perform the rescue.

Turn around, don’t drown.

We appreciate your cooperation in helping keep our community—and our responders—safe.

The Ballville Volunteer Fire Department is improving patient care through our partnership with University Hospitals.

Our crews now use the OneDose App and have access to more medications to better treat patients in the field.

With this app, our providers can:

✔️ Quickly check medical protocols
✔️ Verify medications before giving them
✔️ Use built-in dose calculators
✔️ CPR metronome and medication timer
✔️ Track important events during a call

What this means for you: You may see our crews using iPads on scene. These tools help us give faster, safer, and more accurate care.

Technology doesn’t replace patient care—it helps us do it better.

Interested in being part of a team using modern tools to serve our community? We are always looking for new members!

The members of the Ballville Volunteer Fire Department are saddened by the recent passing of Lorrie Dymond.

If you have been involved in public services in any capacity over the past 30+ years in Northwest Ohio, chances are you met Lorrie. As the Fire/EMT/CPR Program Coordinator for the Public Safety Program at Vanguard, she was often the first person many of us encountered as we began our training.

Lorrie was an exceptional instructor, always willing to take extra time to ensure her students truly understood the material. As the Safety Program Coordinator, she made certain instructors had the tools and support needed to see each class through to completion. As a mentor, she listened, guided, and helped many of us navigate the challenges that come with this profession.

Lorrie played a role in shaping countless providers, and there is no doubt her influence lives on every day, on emergency scenes and in patient care, though those that she taught.

Those of us that knew you, whether as a colleague, partner, instructor, mentor, or friend, will forever be grateful for the time we shared.

Her contributions to public service have been profound, and her legacy will continue for generations to come.

We at the Ballville Volunteer Fire Department thank Lorrie for her years of unwavering dedication to the community and our profession.

Rest in peace, Lorrie. We will continue to keep your family, friends, and all those you impacted in our thoughts and prayers during this difficult time.
