On January 6th, 2021, Capitol Police Officer Harry Dunn stood his ground. While a violent mob attacked our nation's Capitol in an attempt to overturn a presidential election, Harry and his fellow officers held the line, defended our democracy, and protected the members of Congress inside.

For his bravery and sacrifice, President Joe Biden awarded him the Presidential Citizens Medal.

Now, Harry Dunn is bringing his powerful message of democracy and accountability to the Ninth District.

He will be the keynote speaker at the 2026 Lee H. Hamilton Dinner on Saturday, August 22nd at 6:00 p.m. at the Historic French Lick Hotel in French Lick, Indiana.

This is a rare opportunity to hear directly from someone who has literally stood on the frontlines defending American democracy. Whether you're a longtime supporter or newly engaged in the fight for our rights, you won't want to miss this.

Governor Mike Braun has declared a statewide disaster emergency due to the flooding, severe weather, tornadic activity and a derecho that impacted the state beginning on Aug. 11, 2026.

In response to this severe weather, the State Emergency Operations Center elevated the activation from Daily Operations (IV) to Emergency Conditions (III).

Over the last 48 hours, the Indiana Department of Homeland Security, in collaboration with partner state agencies, has led the state’s response efforts.

- IDHS’ Office of Emergency Communications has deployed mobile radio towers.
- IDHS has deployed three recovery teams to Northwest Indiana to begin assessing damage, and an Incident Management Team to Franklin County to assist with the response efforts to the flooding.
- A number of shelters have been stood up throughout the state by the American Red Cross and other partners.
- The Indiana Department of Natural Resources has deployed boats and swift water rescue gear to flooded areas.
- The Indiana Department of Transportation, in conjunction with the Indiana Department of Correction, is actively removing debris and monitoring roadways for flooding. Preparations continue to be made as widespread flooding persists.
- The Indiana National Guard has been mobilized to assist Northwest Indiana and are also prepared to assist with evacuations throughout the state have been impacted by flooding.
- The state is continuing to monitor the power outages and is working with utility companies to remove any debris to ensure areas are accessible to be restored.

Emergency Management Agencies (EMAs) are an essential part of keeping Hoosiers safe and prepared.They work behind the scenes and on the front lines, coordinating resources, communicating critical information, responding to emergencies, and helping communities recover when disaster strikes.

I've seen our EMAs show up for their constituents time and time again. Whether it's severe weather, flooding, a major emergency, or simply helping a community prepare for what could happen next, they are there when Hoosiers need them. Their dedication and willingness to serve deserve our appreciation and support.

It’s important to know your local EMA and have their contact information readily available. Don't wait until an emergency happens to figure out where to turn. Save their contact information, follow your local emergency management agency for updates, and make sure your family and neighbors know how to access reliable emergency information.

The more Hoosiers who know their local EMA and understand the role they play, the better prepared our communities will be. Please consider sharing this information to spread awareness.
