The French Lick Police Department has currently been assisting with traffic control on Indiana Ave., Plum Street and W. Hillside Drive.
The large volume of traffic is do to the State or Indiana Highway construction on State Road 56 east of Indiana Ave and west of Plum Street where the highway is officially closed to traffic.
The Town streets that are being used should only be used by local residents and an ordinance is in place for operation that allow only vehicles under 50,000 pounds or 36 feet in length.
Do to the unusual increase in traffic all residents should be vigilant and use restraint when possible for walking or allowing children to play in these areas.
We don’t know the exact finish time but around 8 weeks has been allotted for the project.
Increased patrols will remain in those areas and citations for speeding and weight limit violations may be issued along with any other violation needing to be enforced.
On behalf of the Police Department and Community we would like to ask all motorists to drive slowly through these areas and to obey the vehicle weight limit restrictions as these streets are very narrow.
