Frenchtown Pond State Park is part of a greater management area called the Hellgate District. The Hellgate District stretches between Milltown State Park and follows along the Clark Fork River to St. Regis Fishing Access Site. The District includes four state parks, 22 fishing access sites, Fish Creek WMA, and the Alberton Gorge!

Swipe to meet some of the FWP staff working in the Hellgate District this summer season and be sure to say hi if you see us on the trails or river! 👋

Do you love the outdoors, camping and helping others? Do you have an RV, camper or fifth wheel?

Montana Fish, Wildlife & Parks is actively recruiting experienced outdoor recreationists to be park hosts at Frenchtown Pond State Park for the summer! The position runs May 1st to September 15, 2023. Hosts serve a minimum of 20 hours per week for one person or 32 hours per week per couple. Duties include:

Primary duty: open park gates and restrooms in the morning and close the park gates and lock restrooms five days a week.

Secondary duties: peak hour presence to assist with the loan of PFDs; assist staff with park events as needed; conduct occasional light caretaking duties.

Serve as a site presence and assist park customers and staff as needed.

Host site amenities include host pad, electrical hookups, water, sewer, mail service and trash disposal. In addition to free camping, campground hosts receive $100 monthly stipend from FWP. The Outside is in Us All, but it takes special people to be park hosts. If you think you have what it takes to be part of the Montana State Parks legacy and are interested in volunteering, please contact Michael Kustudia at [email protected] for more information.

We're looking forward to the Kids Ice Fishing Clinic this Saturday morning! The flyer that's been posted unfortunately had an error from a previous year's version stating that masks are required. They are not, though people are welcome to wear them if they choose.

Fond of Our Pond

Once an abandoned gravel pit, Frenchtown Pond State Park is now a local community favorite. The main feature is the small, spring-fed pond full of sunfish, bass and trout, with a maximum depth of only 18 feet.

Recreational opportunities abound on this 41 acre lot as people fish, swim, picnic, bird watch, kayak, canoe, paddle board and walk or jog the 1-mile long perimeter trail. Memories are made as families go ice fishing during winter. There isn’t a better place to practice and perfect your paddle sports before braving the Clark Fork river. Birders get lucky as they watch osprey and eagles dive for fish in the summer. It’s also the warmest place to swim, thanks to that shallow depth!

Community events are at the heart of this Montana State Park. Visit one of the many free interpretive and educational events for both youth and adults held each year. Junior Rangers can spend their summers learning about wildlife, nature, geology, history, culture and more during our eight-week long program. Families can attend one of our many evening interpretive events at the West Shelter to hear speakers from a variety of local organizations and backgrounds. Or you may just like to visit one of our special events held each summer - we do host a number of them.

Stop by to find out why we’re all fond of our community pond.
