With Gratitude

Thank you for passing Measure A, Clovis Unified’s facility bond measure. Its success means every one of our schools will see security and energy efficiency upgrades, older schools will receive much-needed updates and repairs, and Clovis South High School will be completed.

As work on the Measure A project list gets underway, our commitment remains accountability, transparency, and pursuit of the highest standards in all that we do for our students, our team, and our community.

It’s your school district. Help us decide how Clovis Unified will look in the years to come. Learn the facts about Measure A and be an informed voter in the November election.

FACT: Passage of Measure A would keep the current property tax rate unchanged, a rate that has been the same in Clovis Unified for the last decade and is the lowest rate among the area’s large school districts. If passed, the bond would allow for safety, energy efficiency and technology upgrades at every school; maintenance and modernization of aging schools, many built 60+ years ago; and new construction to ease classroom overcrowding for students, preserve quality learning environments and help protect nearby home values.

FACT: All Clovis Unified schools would benefit from the bond. Funds would be designated for safety, energy efficiency and technology upgrades at every school campus across the district’s 198-square-mile area. From security window replacements to cameras and lighting, the upgrades would add to the protection of our students and staff.

DISTRICT BOND MEASURE ON BALLOT

Clovis Unified has a facilities bond on the November ballot. Why now?

All previously approved bond funds have been used, and we without Measure A are out of facility funds to complete needed repairs, maintenance, building and modernization projects.

Without new funding, needed safety and technology enhancements at all schools cannot occur and the district would not be eligible for matching state dollars. Older schools – some more than 60+ years old – would not be updated. Additionally, the final phase of our new high school could not be completed, leaving a student-housing problem in the secondary level that may have to be resolved by busing, boundary changes or double sessions.

Measure A is a $400 million bond that maintains the existing tax rate.

This is a critical time to hear from our community on how to proceed. We encourage you to learn the facts about Measure A and cast your vote in the November election.

STRONGER TOGETHER
Use positivity and enthusiasm to motivate yourself and others to do great things! “Enthusiasm” is the character strength many schools explored this week in The Positivity Project.

Featured in these photos are the Lincoln Elementary Lions! Students spent time in their classrooms learning what enthusiasm means and how they can share it with others to boost happiness. They took turns sharing what they are enthusiastic about, and used their own enthusiasm to make their classmates excited. To wrap up the lesson, they wrote down things in their life that they are enthusiastic about, and drew photos to go along with their writing.

Parents can bring the lessons home about enthusiasm. Talk about how enthusiasm can bring people together to reach a common goal. Discuss ways to tap into enthusiasm to complete important tasks that you don't like, such as household chores.

Most Clovis Unified schools are taking part in The Positivity Project. The program has weekly materials for each grade level that explore one of 24 character strengths youth can access to build positive relationships by understanding and exemplifying these strengths in themselves and others.

We’re focused on creating a healthy and safe learning environment where ALL students can be their best in mind, body and spirit, and our dress code and its enforcement is a key ingredient to achieving our goal.

School leaders have spent the past few months in deep conversation with staff, students and families about our dress code, and on January 12, 2022, the Board took action on findings from this six-month process. Updates to the dress code are designed to ensure that the District’s Dress Code (Board Policy No. 5132) fulfills its purpose to:

Support Student Safety Promote Health & Hygiene Prepare Students for their Future, and Establish a Learning Environment Focused on Education

Ensuring that enforcement of the dress code promotes overall student well-being is also critically important. The 2021 Dress Code Review includes the creation of standard operating procedures for dress code enforcement.
