Central Valley Progressive PAC

Central Valley Progressive PAC The Valley’s Voice for Progressives. The purpose of the CVPPAC organization is to promote the human and civil rights of all Central Valley residents.

This is to be accomplished through education and action. The CVPPAC will advocate and/or lobby elected officials relative to the concerns/core values of Central Valley residents. The CVPPAC will also recruit, endorse and support candidates for office who are committed to the concerns/core values of Central Valley residents as expressed (presented) by the CVPPAC. These concerns/core values include,

but are not limited to: a living wage for all workers, clean air, public safety, affordable housing, adequate public transportation & bike paths, police accountability, improved public education, marriage equality, and health care for all. The CVPPAC is dedicated to enhancing (improving) the participation of Central Valley residents in the election of governmental officials by sponsoring “Get Out The Vote” campaigns.

The momentum in the Fresno County Supervisor District 1 race is undeniable. From farmers to faith leaders to everyday neighbors, people are ready for a representative who answers to them.

I come to this work with a social worker’s lens and lived experience. I see the human impact behind every policy. When you focus on root causes instead of quick fixes, you build a county that is safer, more stable, and prosperous for everyone.

I do not pretend to have every answer, but I listen, I learn, and I act. That mindset helped me, as Mayor of Kerman, secure millions in my first 90 days; including $3M for a new Community Safety building, $1M for Hart Ranch Park, and the first-ever dedicated shuttle for students to Fresno City College. I continue to advocate for resources and the long-overdue city improvements our residents deserve.

I will bring that same urgency to the Fresno County Board of Supervisors. From day one, our community will know this: we are done waiting for a seat at the table, because our time is now. I would be honored to earn your support.

Stay connected and join me as we build a community that becomes a village for us all.

Dear CVPPAC community,

Thank you to everyone who was able to support our fundraiser last month! We had amazing speakers and a full house, with lots of long-term members and new faces.

Usually we have our membership meetings on the second Saturday of the month, which would be today. But due to scheduling conflicts, our last meeting of the year will be next Saturday, November 15th at 3:30 via Zoom. The main priority of this meeting will be how we'd like to apportion the funds we've raised amongst our endorsed candidates.

Everyone is encouraged to attend, and current members will be able to vote on the allotments. If you want a say and are not yet a member, please join to make your voice heard.

Keep your eye on your email for the Zoom link.

Kind regards,

Heather Evans
Vice President, CVPPAC

Recommendations for November 5, 2024

The Community Alliance newspaper prints a guide for voters every election cycle. This gives readers the ability to see who is endorsing candidates and you can choose which values you agree with.

The Chamber of Commerce or Organized Labor?
The Republican Party or the Democratic Party?

There is also a grid for all of the Ballot Measures.

Statewide Ballot Measures—The Second Five
BY RACHEL YOUDELMAN

As noted in last month’s issue, your Nov. 5 ballot will include 10 statewide measures ranging from repairs for public school buildings to increasing the minimum wage. Other issues, including rent control, climate action, prisoner labor measures and a proposal for harsher penalties for theft and drug crimes will also be presented to voters for important, consequential decisions. Last month, we presented Propositions 2–6. As promised, below is the second set of five of November’s 10 ballot measures, Propositions 32–36. These measures will determine how Californians will live their daily lives, so every vote counts. Remember: Not voting is still a vote—for the other side.

Prop 36 a Dangerous Ruse
BY BOB MCCLOSKEY

California Proposition 36, the Drug and Theft Crime Penalties and Treatment-Mandated Felonies Initiative, is on the November ballot. If passed by voters, years of successful sentencing reform and funding are in jeopardy. It is a dangerous ruse, and its sponsors are gaslighting the public.

Are the Districts Gerrymandered?
BY JAMES MENDEZ

We are in the final stretch of the election season. Ballots will be mailed out to voters on Oct. 7. Even though Election Day isn’t until Nov. 5, once voters receive their ballots they can vote by mailing in their ballots or dropping them off at drop boxes throughout the county or at the Registrar of Voters office at 2221 Kern Street in downtown Fresno.

Local Congressional Races
BY JAMES MENDEZ

Trump: Immigrants Are Eating Pets and Stealing Jobs
BY SUNITA SOHRABJI

Republican Presidential candidate Donald Trump went full throttle on immigrants during the Sept. 10 Presidential debate, vowing to deport at least 15 million migrants immediately after taking office. “These people coming in…they’re eating the dogs. They’re eating the cats. They’re eating the pets of the people that live there,” said the former president, referencing debunked reports of Haitian migrants trapping animals and barbecuing them in Springfield, Ohio.

Falling Out with Historical Allies
BY JAMES MENDEZ

Recent events on the Fresno electoral scene clearly demonstrate that the goals of elected officials are not always 100% in alignment with the goals of their supporters or groups that have supported them in the past. Although it is unreasonable to expect any group to agree with an individual all the time, we are seeing an unusual falling out of those who had been historical allies this year.

Hi All,

I want to invite you to this event to raise money to support progressive candidates in the November election. Please join us as we take time to socialize with our each other and prepare for this historically important election. Our guest speaker is Carol Goldsmith the Chancellor for the State Center Community College District. The emergence of the Fresno City College Campus as an active participant in the activities and discussions about critical issues such as of the status of our democracy and the struggle for social justice has taken place under her leadership. We will also have presentations from local activists working on combatting dangerous working conditions in the agricultural industry.

In the next few months we will send our candidate questionnaire to those candidates running for local school boards and other offices. This will prepare us for our endorsements that will take place in September.

I hope to see on June 29.

In Unity,

Pam Whalen
