Opening doors to opportunity. 🔑✨

On April 29, 2026, Fresno County Probation marked a major milestone with the ribbon-cutting of Titan Youth Home—a new transitional living space designed to support young men as they take the next step toward independence.

Operated by Valley Teen Ranch, Titan Youth Home will provide step-down housing for up to eight residents (ages 18–25), offering a structured and supportive environment focused on growth and success. Through access to job experience, vocational training, education, counseling, athletics, and enrichment activities, youth will gain the tools they need to thrive on their own.

This initiative reflects a continued commitment to creating meaningful pathways for youth reentry—because every young person deserves the chance to build a strong, stable future.

The impact child sexual abuse has on children varies greatly. While there is a wide range of symptoms a child may develop, some common ones include emotional outbursts/heightened irritability, withdrawn or detachment from others, overwhelming feelings of fear, anxiety and/or depression. If children are not treated appropriately, these symptoms may continue into adulthood and become increasingly severe. Symptoms in adulthood appear as thoughts of su***de and depression, low self-esteem, PTSD, and anxiety. In efforts to cope with the abuse, some adults may develop unhealthy behaviors such as drug/alcohol abuse or engage in self-harm. When disclosure of child sexual assault is made, reporting it to law enforcement and proceeding with the criminal court process are critical steps; however, what occurs after is just as important. Parents may not know how to help their children after a disclosure is made. Fortunately, there are many resources available to help children and their parents navigate this difficult process and provide support and guidance.

A common myth about child sexual abuse is that perpetrators are usually strangers. Many parents focus on “stranger danger,” while naturally lowering their guard around people they know and trust; however, research shows that children are far more likely to be sexually abused by someone they know. Approximately 93% of victims under the age of 18 know their abuser. Of those cases, about 59% of abusers were acquaintances, and 34% were family members; with only 7% being strangers. Perpetrators use grooming tactics to gain a child’s trust and gradually lower boundaries. Grooming can begin with subtle, seemingly harmless behaviors and escalate over time. These tactics may also involve building trust with parents and caregivers. This is why awareness is important. Perpetrators can be anyone, and sometimes they are the least suspected individuals. Recognizing grooming behaviors early and maintaining open communication with children can help reduce vulnerability and increase protection.

The tattoo removal event held on January 13, 2026, marked an important milestone for the department, drawing 34 participants and serving as our first-ever event of this kind.

The Fresno County Probation Department, in partnership with Mobile Tattoo Removal Experts, provided individuals on probation the opportunity to receive tattoo removal services, free of charge. This program aims to support re-entry by removing visible tattoos that may hinder employment or social acceptance.

The department's goal is to hold events every six weeks, and the next event is scheduled for March 3, 2026.
