Speed doesn’t just increase your chances of being involved in a crash, it dramatically increases the force of impact and the likelihood of serious or life-threatening injuries.

This horrific crash is a stark reminder of those dangers. Excessive speed and loss of control caused the vehicle to slide hundreds of feet before overturning, resulting in serious injuries.

We are keeping the driver in our thoughts and prayers. We also hope this incident serves as a powerful reminder to slow down.

No destination is worth risking your life or the lives of others on our roadways.

The CHP’s Holiday Enforcement Period has officially ended, and CHP Fresno officers were out in full force working to keep our communities safe.

In just three and a half days, officers made an astounding:

• 48 DUI arrests
• 1,057 total citations
• 14 drivers cited for speeds over 100 MPH
• 80 seatbelt violations
• 26 distracted driving citations
• 59 vehicle impounds
• 185 verbal warnings

But the most important number of all?

Zero fatal crashes.

While we are extremely thankful our officers were able to remove these dangerous drivers from the roadways before more lives were impacted, the reality is we are still seeing far too many people choosing to drive impaired.
Never get behind the wheel impaired. Choose a designated driver, call a rideshare, or make other safe arrangements. If you see something, say something, your call could save a life.

CHP partnered with Caltrans District 6 for the Caltrans Workers Memorial.

We are deeply humbled to stand alongside the men and women who dedicate their lives to keeping our roadways safe, and proud to honor the fallen and their families.

Each cone placed represents a Caltrans worker who lost their life in the line of duty since 1921, a powerful and heartbreaking reminder to slow down in the cone zone and move over whenever possible.

Their sacrifice will never be forgotten.

He’s going to be ok. 🙏

Yesterday evening, one of our CHP motor officers was struck from behind while moving to assist a disabled vehicle on Highway 99 near Highway 180.

The impact ejected the officer onto the hood of the vehicle and into active lanes of traffic. He sustained serious injuries and was transported to the hospital for treatment. Remarkably, he has since been released and is now recovering at home.

We can’t thank our community enough for the overwhelming support, calls, and messages showing just how much you care. We also want to recognize the incredible citizens and off-duty Nurse Practitioner who immediately stopped to render aid and provide protection from approaching traffic.

May is Motorcycle Safety Awareness Month, and this crash is an unfortunate reminder of the dangers motorcyclists, including law enforcement officers, face every day.

Please slow down, stay alert, put the phone down, and look twice for motorcycles. One moment of inattention can change lives forever.

With the rise in child trauma injuries involving e-bikes, Fresno Unified partnered with Valley Children’s Injury Prevention Program to host an important e-bike safety conference with Bullard High School students focused on protecting our youth.

Parents play a critical role by staying involved, keeping open communication with their children, encouraging safe riding practices, and making sure helmets are worn every ride.

This important safety message was shared in collaboration with Valley Children’s Hospital, the Safe Kids Coalition, and the Fresno Police Department. Safety starts with all of us.
