Big news for Lee's Landing: the San Juan County Council has unanimously approved our request to include homeownership opportunities at Lee's Landing, an exciting step in ensuring development can move forward!

The Home Trust has proposed offering both rental and ownership opportunities, which improves feasibility by opening up new funding sources to get these 40 much-needed affordable homes built ASAP. Our development agreement with the County and the Town of Friday Harbor requires sign-off from both jurisdictions to make this pivot in the project concept.

During the meeting, San Juan County Housing Program Coordinator Ryan Page said, "There's an urgency, for all of us, to get more housing going, and the reality is this is the quickest path forward to getting this project to breaking ground."

The unanimous vote reflects the strong partnership between the Home Trust and San Juan County, which has long shared our commitment to creating permanently affordable housing for island residents.

As Council Member Kari McVeigh shared during the meeting, "I can't wait to be there when you break ground in spring of 2027...I am 100% yes on moving forward with the change in the development agreement."

We're grateful for the County's continued support and look forward to the next steps as we work to bring Lee's Landing to life for the people who live and work on San Juan Island.

We would like to extend our heartfelt thanks to Paul Fischburg.

In January, Paul graciously stepped into the role of Interim Executive Director and hit the ground running. His thoughtfulness, curiosity, and unwavering dedication to the Home Trust’s mission have been a gift to our organization. We are incredibly grateful for his willingness to take on this challenge and help ensure a smooth leadership transition as we welcome Jess Blanch into her new role as Executive Director this month.

Thank you, Paul, for everything: your leadership, your commitment, and the steady support you've offered this year and beyond.

The Home Trust is proud to announce that we have renamed our Argyle Affordable Housing Project in honor of Lee Sturdivant. Lee was one of the Home Trust founders and was a tremendous torch carrier for the cause of affordable housing on San Juan Island. Lois “Lee” Stegall Sturdivant (December 4, 1931 – November 26, 2025) studied journalism in Southern California, wrote for local papers and started a successful beachwear manufacturing company, learning to sail in her free time. The family purchased a sailboat to explore the South Pacific.

Of course, everyone who comes to San Juan Island “lands” here but fittingly, Lee and her husband Tal Sturdivant (1925-2021) literally landed in Friday Harbor for the first time, sight-unseen, in 1979 and fell in love with the island and the people they met. Lee’s life was an adventure – whether sailing the seas, designing dresses for Saks Fifth Avenue, propagating herbs, or starting the San Juan Community Home Trust. May her memory and her values live on at Lee’s Landing!

🏠 Lee’s Landing Update
Lee’s Landing, which will provide 40 units of permanently affordable housing in Friday Harbor’s Historic District, with a low density, eco-friendly, community-oriented design and historic architectural detailing, right in Town within walking distance of all that Friday Harbor has to offer.

On June 1st, our architecture team submitted the Land Use permit application and architectural plans to the Town of Friday Harbor, and we expect to receive land use permit approvals to include in our funding applications to the State of Washington in September.

With State funding to add to the mix, we anticipate being ready to break ground in the Spring of 2027. For more information, check out our website at www.hometrust.org.

What a wonderful celebration we had commemorating the 25th Anniversary of the San Juan Community Home Trust at the Roche Harbor Pavilion!

The joy, pride, and camaraderie that were present can only be explained by how much we have all shared the mission of the Home Trust over our first 25 years.
