PLEASE DROP OFF YOUR BALLOT THIS WEEK. They're due by 8pm on Nov. 4.

Using the ballot drop box before Nov. 4 ensures that your ballot is received. USPS delays might make your ballot arrive late. Be safe - use the box!

We recommend dropping off your ballot THIS WEEK. The ballot drop box is next to the County courthouse.

FACTS!
Proposition 1 is a request for a $0.20 increase on the existing levy.

HOW MUCH IS THE EXISTING LEVY?
The existing levy is $0.51 per $1000 of assessed valuation.

WHAT DOES THE BALLOT SAY?
Your ballot states that a positive vote would *authorize* a “levy of $0.71 per $1,000 of assessed valuation.”

WHAT DOES THAT MEAN?
If Prop. 1 passes, it will raise the levy to a TOTAL of $0.71 per $1000 of assessed valuation. ($0.20 higher than the existing levy of $0.51 per $1,000 of assessed valuation.)

WHY IS THE PHD SEEKING THIS INCREASE TO THE EXISTING LEVY?
The PHD is asking for the increase in order to maintain local health care services and, in some cases, provide enhanced services in the face of the devastating cuts to health care programs and dollars imposed by the federal government.

We are an island community where people care about each other. We strongly support Proposition 1 which requests funds to preserve local health care for islanders. The present levy is 51 cents per $1,000 of assessed valuation; it increases the levy by 20 cents.

Why do we support Prop. 1? It’s not love of more taxes. No, it is the reality that we can no longer cling to the illusion that federal and state assistance will be here for all of us. One only has to pay even a modicum of attention to this reality. It is up to us to see that we will continue to be...
