Seasonal Field Assistant - Lopez Island: The Seasonal Field Assistant performs a range of activities associated with conservation lands management, including trail building and maintenance, w**d control, facilities upkeep, resource protection, leading volunteers, preserve monitoring and educating the public on preserve rules and guidelines. The Seasonal Field Assistant reports to the Land Bank Director, assists the Preserve Stewards, and may work with other Land Bank staff, contractors, and volunteers on all Land Bank preserves located throughout San Juan County. This is a 20-hour per week position with seasonal work ending approximately mid-October.

To be considered for this position, entry-level candidates must first complete a written examination through Public Safety Testing and score a minimum of 70%. Once scores are received, candidates will be contacted by the Civil Service Examiner to attend an in-person oral board panel interview in Friday Harbor, where they will be asked to submit a written application. Upon completion of the interview, candidates will receive another score, and both the written and oral examination scores will be combined to give a final score, placing them with an associated ranking on the eligibility list. Names of candidates and application materials will then be distributed to the Sheriff's Office as requested in the order of their ranking. BASIC FUNCTIONS: Protects Life and Property in San Juan County through the enforcement of all Federal and State laws, as well as local ordinances. Performs routine patrol, traffic enforcement, accident investigation, crime suppression, and crisis intervention. Reports and investigates all crimes and fills all gaps in enforcement and public safety created by the unique geographical location of San Juan County. This position works 40 hours per week.
