We’re excited to share that two groups of our Adult & Me in the Water classes are wrapping up in collaboration with The Rec SJI !

Led by Yubi as part of our Community Health Worker and Perinatal program, this special offering creates space for caregivers and little ones to connect, build confidence in the water, and strengthen bonds through movement and play.

It’s been wonderful to see families learning, laughing, and growing together in the pool. Thank you to The Rec for partnering with us to make this possible and to the families who jumped in with us.

At the Joyce L. Sobel Family Resource Center, we are strengthening our efforts to support brain health and build awareness around dementia and cognitive changes in our community.

The good news? There are steps we can take at any age to support brain health. Research shows that healthy habits can lower the risk of cognitive decline, even for people with a family history of dementia.

Take charge of your brain health by:

• Staying physically active
• Eating nourishing, balanced meals
• Managing blood pressure and diabetes
• Maintaining a healthy weight
• Getting quality sleep
• Protecting your head from injury
• Challenging your mind with new skills and learning
• Staying socially and intellectually engaged
• Avoiding to***co
• Continuing education at any stage of life

It is never too early or too late to start.

🧾 Don’t Toss That Receipt! Your King’s Market receipts do more than record your groceries, they help fund essential services right here on San Juan Island.

When you turn in your King’s receipts to the Family Resource Center, a percentage comes back to support programs like senior services, youth mentoring, household essentials, and more.

Just drop your receipts off at the JLSFRC. It’s that simple.

Shop local. Save your receipt. Strengthen your community. đź’š

Are you someone who wants to help create a more inclusive San Juan Island? Or, are you (or someone you know) a young adult (17+) living with a disability and looking for connection, community, and real-world skill building?

We are currently welcoming:
âś” New YAAS! members (age 17+)
âś” Volunteers who want to support inclusive programming

YAAS! (Young Adult Association of San Juan) was founded in 2019 to bridge a critical gap in support for young adults after they complete the Community Transition Program. Since then, it has grown into a vibrant weekly group that meets every Friday, plus monthly outings like theater trips, dance parties, and community events.

YAAS! is about more than social time. It is about building independence, confidence, and advocacy skills in ways that are engaging and empowering.

Members build life skills in areas like:
• Healthy relationships
• Cooking skills
• Social and emotional skills
• Employment readiness
• Money management
• Self and community advocacy

When young adults have the tools and support to thrive, they shape their own paths — and help build a stronger, more inclusive island community.

📵Screen-Free Week 2026 was AMAZING! We are still smiling after an incredible week of unplugging, connecting, and coming together as a community.

From cooking and reading to bowling, nature walks, poetry, pizza tastings, and creative workshops, island families showed up in a big way. It was a powerful reminder that when we step away from our screens, we step closer to each other.

A heartfelt thank you to our amazing partners who helped make this week so special:
• JP's Restaurant and Bar
• Alchemy Art Center
• Island Verse Literary Collective
• San Juan Island Library

Your generosity, creativity, and collaboration made this week possible. And thank you to every family, volunteer, and community member who participated. You made this week joyful, meaningful, and full of connection.
