We are excited to announce that all new funds donated to the Columbia Heights (CH) Community Mutual Aid GoFundMe will be matched up to $500,000 by the Wilson Foundation to help with increasing and urgent rent support!
Despite the lessening of Operation Metro Surge, there continues to be deep economic impacts on individuals, families and the community. CHPS Parent-Teachers Organizations' fundraising and the CH Community Mutual Aid GoFundMe have helped with providing food, supplies and rent to families, but the need for rent assistance is profound.
The CH Community Mutual Aid Fund has a list of 407 families/homes in Heights or with Heights kids who are still in need of $609,000 in rental support beyond what has been provided. There is a mutual aid committee of community members, including some CHPS staff, who make the decisions about how to distribute the funds. To date, this fund has mostly been able to support families with 50% of their rental needs-- this keeps more families in their homes. The local nonprofit, Heightsnext, has recently joined in this mutual aid and has a mutual aid giving webpage for corporate/foundation giving and individuals who prefer to give to a 501c3. Donations through HeightsNEXT are included in the Wilson Foundation matching funds.
Please consider helping the CH community as we recover from the impacts of Operation Metro Surge on our families and community. Your donation, now doubled thanks to the Wilson Foundation, is a tangible way to help our families stay in their homes. Your support provides stability for children and shows our neighbors how important they are to the vibrancy and life of Columbia Heights.
Every donation makes a difference and we are so grateful for your support!
