The Friendswood Police Department is saddened to announce the unexpected passing of K9 Tigo during a diagnostic surgical procedure on Tuesday, June 9, 2026.

Since joining the Friendswood Police Department in July of 2019, Tigo faithfully served our community and department with unwavering dedication. Throughout his career, he played a vital role in protecting our officers and citizens, while exemplifying the loyalty, courage, and work ethic that make police service dogs such valuable members of our profession.

Beyond his service, Tigo shared a special bond with his handler, Sgt. Granillo. Their partnership was built on years of trust, commitment, and countless hours spent training and working together. Anyone who had the opportunity to see them work knew that their relationship extended far beyond that of handler and K9; it was a true partnership and friendship. Tigo was not only a working dog but also a constant companion who stood by Sgt. Granillo's side through the challenges and successes of police work.

The Department asks the community to keep Sgt. Granillo and his family in your thoughts during this difficult time. We are grateful for Tigo's nearly 7 years of faithful service and the legacy he leaves behind. He will be missed, but he will not be forgotten.
