Last week, we enjoyed teaching 27 students in our SafeSitter class important skills to prepare them for the adventures of babysitting. They learned about the needs of different age groups, when to call 9-1-1, how to perform CPR, what to do if a child or infant is choking, and factors of managing their own babysitting business. We are grateful for their commitment to making our community safer and taking time out of their summer to learn skills that can save lives.

Congratulations to Captain David Waindel!

Friendswood EMS is proud to congratulate Captain David Waindel on graduating from the Texas Certified Public Manager Program on June 8, 2026. The graduation ceremony was held at the Texas State Capitol in Austin.

Over the past year, David has dedicated countless hours to the program through University of Houston, balancing the demands of his leadership role with the rigorous coursework required to earn this prestigious certification. His commitment, perseverance, and passion for professional development have culminated in this significant achievement.

Joining David at the graduation ceremony were EMS Chief Lisa Camp and Captain Stacy Kohn, who were honored to celebrate this milestone alongside him.

The Certified Public Manager designation reflects David’s dedication to excellence in public service and leadership. The knowledge and skills gained through this program will continue to benefit Friendswood EMS, the City of Friendswood, and the community we proudly serve.

Congratulations, Captain Waindel, on this well-earned accomplishment! Your hard work and commitment to lifelong learning are an inspiration to all of us. 🎓👏🚑

As we celebrated EMS Week and this year’s theme, “Improving Outcomes, Together,” the paramedics who treated Ben had the distinct honor of reconnecting with him alongside the UTMB trauma team coming full circle in a story that is a powerful reminder of why we do what we do.

Ben was one of the victims in the tragic shooting that occurred in Friendswood on December 23, 2023. On that cold, rainy December night, our team responded to a chaotic and heartbreaking scene, working meticulously and with extraordinary care to stabilize Ben after he sustained a life-threatening gunshot wound to the head. Through their lifesaving interventions, Ben was stabilized and transported to UTMB Clear Lake, a Level 2 trauma center, where he received the critical care that began his long road to recovery.

On Friday, May 15, 2026, our paramedics had the privilege of seeing Ben again this time standing strong, sharing his recovery journey, and introducing us to his family. It was an emotional and unforgettable moment as hugs were shared, stories were exchanged, and everyone reflected on the remarkable outcome that once seemed uncertain.

Moments like these remind us of the profound impact EMS professionals and trauma teams can have in the most critical moments of someone’s life. We are incredibly proud of our paramedics and continually humbled by the resilience of our patients and the stories they share.

Thank you to UTMB Clear Lake for inviting us to be part of such a meaningful event.
