Thank you to the Texas AWWA and The Water Environment Association of Texas for awarding the Harris-Galveston Subsidence District the 2026 Watermark Award in Communication Excellence at Texas Water, the largest regional water conference in the United States!

This award recognizes members who have produced top-quality, effective communications, and this year’s award was earned by HGSD for its altruistic campaign that leveraged the District's 50th anniversary to advance measures on subsidence education and the importance of reducing reliance on groundwater in the greater Houston area.

The Harris-Galveston Subsidence District Board of Directors has approved the latest Annual Groundwater Report!

The results of the Annual Groundwater Report ultimately tell the story about our region’s subsidence mitigation efforts and help to better inform local decision-makers with data that can be used to build a more resilient community. In areas that have reduced their reliance on groundwater, little to no subsidence occurs, whereas in areas that still rely on groundwater as their primary water source, subsidence continues.

The District held a public hearing yesterday to present the latest Annual Groundwater Report. The results of the Annual Groundwater Report ultimately tell a story about our region’s subsidence mitigation efforts. In areas that have reduced their reliance on groundwater, little to no subsidence occurs, whereas in areas that still rely on groundwater as their primary water source, subsidence rates are significantly higher.

We are always eager to share our Annual Groundwater Report with the public to provide the latest information on subsidence and to better inform local decision-makers with data that can help build a more resilient community.

“Better data leads to better planning, and the results of this report provide just that,” said HGSD's General Manager, Mike Turco.

The hearing presentation and video recording are available now on our website at: https://hgsubsidence.org/2026/05/01/annual-groundwater-report-public-hearing/

The Annual Groundwater Report Public Hearing is scheduled for 9:00am on April 30, 2026, at our office in Friendswood, TX.

Each year, HGSD publishes an Annual Groundwater Report that includes the most recent subsidence, aquifer water-level, and groundwater-use data. This public hearing will present data collected for the 2025 calendar year, compare it with previous years, and provide context on the impact of changes in water use and water sources on the occurrence and magnitude of subsidence.

A virtual viewing option will be available for those who would like to watch the hearing in real-time.
