The Fries Volunteer Fire Department was founded in April of 1961 by a group of dedicated men who wanted to provide fire protection and emergency medical services. The members, equipment, and location have all changed since then, but the dedication of the members stays the same. Consisting of 2 stations, Fries Firefighters work constantly through training to ensure that we are up to standards with evolving incidents!!

Tones set: 01:14AM. Structure Fire. Dispatch advising a working fire. Galax Fire was dispatched second due, as well as Independence Fire for tanker support which was later canceled.

Upon arrival, C-14 found a single story wood frame residence with nothing showing. After performing a 360 of the structure, light smoke and flames was discovered on the A/B corner.

E-1 arrived on scene, deploying one 1 3/4 line to the front door, initiating an aggressive interior attack on the fire, which proved successful. The bulk of the fire was held to the living area, leaving only smoke damage through the remainder of the residence. The fire was marked under control in approximately 5 minutes, after the arrival of E-1. Galax Fire units assisted in overhaul and successfully rescuing 1 cat from the residence!!

A huge thanks to Galax Fire Department and Independence Volunteer Fire Department for their response!!

Company Training on a rainy day with Galax Fire Department

Multiple crews took a rainy Saturday morning and made the best of it, with multiple different training scenarios!! In correlation with Galax Fire personnel, firefighters drilled on hose deployment up multiple stairways, coordinated ventilation, VEIS, and command operations. In addition, MayDay operations were added into the scenarios spontaneously.

These trainings show commitment to providing a better outcome to our communities, as well as creating a stronger working relationship between departments. Huge thanks to Galax Fire for coming out on a Saturday morning!!

Tones set: 08:50pm. Vehicle Fire at 238 Grayson Street. Initial reports stated that there was entrapment.

Rescue 6 was first on scene, finding that the correct address was actually on Middle Street. R-6 found a single vehicle with heavy flames showing from the engine compartment, with immediate structural exposures and confirmed that luckily, no occupants were inside the vehicle.

Utility 8 then arrived on scene, initiating efforts to darken the fire with a 2.5 gallon water can to protect exposures, which proved successful. E-1 and B-9 arrived shortly after, deploying an 1 3/4 line and booster line to finish the firefight. No structures were damaged due to the fire.
One firefighter was transported to TCRH with NLT injuries.

Tones set: 02:01PM. Brush Fire. Galax Fire was dispatched for assistance.

Nearby units arrived quickly, finding approximately one (1) acre of wind driven fire moving quickly. A nearby member who arrived within minutes, went to work promptly with a leaf blower, cutting the fire off to the east. Simultaneously, crews arrived on scene, deploying 3 booster lines from Galax Units, B-9, and B-13, while also utilizing E-2s deck gun.

The fire was marked under control in less than 30 minutes. Crew remained on scene extinguishing hotspots for another hour. Huge thanks to Galax Fire Department for the assist!!
