In our effort to bring some positivity to your day, we found the word “cool” in this week’s forecast. Just don’t read anything past the first sentence…or look at the graphic…or go outside.

A weak front will bring a slight cool-down late week into next weekend. Unfortunately, rain chances will remain low area-wide, and the threat for grass fires will remain elevated along and west of Highway 281.

The heat can be especially dangerous to the most vulnerable members of our community. Be sure to check on family, friends, and neighbors, and NEVER leave kids or pets unattended in a vehicle.

Portions of North Texas, including the DFW Metroplex, have been upgraded to an Excessive Heat Warning for this afternoon and evening. Heat index values in the warned (pink) area are expected to exceed 110 degrees Friday. A Heat Advisory remains in effect for the remainder of the area through Friday evening. Ensure you're practicing heat safety by drinking plenty of water, taking frequent breaks indoors in the A/C, and wearing light-colored, lightweight clothing.

Parvovirus cases are on the rise, so all dog owners should take a moment to review this important information from Animal Services. Though Parvo is highly contagious and can be deadly, it is EASILY DIAGNOSED and PREVENTABLE. Be sure that your canine companions have been vaccinated, especially puppies and young adults.

🚧 Traffic Alert: Starting Thursday, August 15, as part of the City’s reconstruction project, the traffic switch on Main St. will extend from 3rd to 5th St. Traffic will remain in this configuration for a few months until a different traffic switch is announced.
🚫As shown in the map, the south half of Main St. will now be closed between 1st and 5th Streets while the pavement is removed, utilities are installed, and the road repaved.

🚧TRAFFIC ALERT, Saturday, August 10: As part of the ongoing DNT widening project, SB Dallas Pkwy. will be closed between PGA Pkwy and Panther Creek Pkwy. Fields Pkwy. will also be closed between Legacy Dr. and Dallas Pkwy. The roads will close at 5 a.m. and reopen by 8 p.m. (weather permitting).

reminder - Motorists in both directions must STOP for a school bus with flashing red lights. On a divided roadway, where a physical median or barrier exists, motorists traveling in the opposite direction are not required to stop but should proceed with caution.

Atmos Energy will perform routine natural gas maintenance at 7689 Panther Creek Pkwy. 3 p.m. - 3:30 p.m. daily, Tuesday, Aug. 6 - Friday, Aug. 9, and again Tuesday, Aug. 13.
