Dear Boals PTA Membership,

IMPORTANT!!: You are invited to join us for the Boals Elementary PTA annual meeting for the 2019-2020 school year. The meeting will be at 6 p.m. May 14 via Zoom. Only registered members will receive the Zoom login instructions. You can register for the meeting here: https://forms.gle/dkmCKjzfVw4DB9Za8

On the behalf of the PTA, I would like to personally thank you for your commitment and support this year. Because of your valued support, we were able to contribute positively to our school by providing several special programs for our students, such as the mobile planetarium where our students crawled into an inflatable planetarium set up in our gym to learn about the constellations and cool facts about our galaxy. Your support also enabled us to bring to our classrooms the High Touch/High Tech hands-on program that provided grade-level specific science experiments designed to complement our STEM curricula. We also invited a magician during Red Ribbon Week, the Kidz Science Safari mobile museum, and taught compassion and empathy to our students through our Diverse-abilities Day.

In addition to the extra learning programs for our students, the PTA strives to engage our parents via our Coffee Talk series. This popular series is geared toward topics that provide information and support for our parents, such as Tears & Cheers for our new kindergarten parents, Social Media and My Child, and 5th Grade Transition to Middle School.

Your support also allowed us to purchase a new drinking fountain / water bottle filling station for the school. This project was installed across from the gym just before Spring Break. The Boals PTA also partnered with Boals to make other capital improvement, such as the overhead signs that brought a needed facelift and inspiration to our hallways.

And finally, our major donation to the school for the 2019-2020 school year was gifting each teacher with money to purchase STEM buckets and flexible seating for their classrooms. The STEM buckets, chosen by each teacher specifically for their classroom needs, helped enhance the newly implemented “brain breaks” policy from FISD. If you attended the STEM Family Night this year, all of the games and activities enjoyed by the children were provided by the PTA through your donations.

As you can see, this has been a great year for the Boals Elementary PTA, and none of this would have been possible if not for your membership and support. I look forward to partnering with you again next year to bring the best education to our students at Boals!

Sincerely,

Melanie Marx
Boals PTA Elementary, President

Beep - Beep!!! Good afternoon Boals Families,
Our Boals Staff and I know that it has been an uncharted time in our lives for all of us. We want to spread some joy to each of you but also maintain social distancing, so we are going to have a Boals Staff Spirit Car Parade on Tuesday, March 24 starting at 3:15 pm, from Boals Elementary.

We have a large zone to cover so we will be focusing on the perimeter of our attendance zones. Here are just a few of the streets we will be coming down; Jaguar, Chenault, Stuttgart, Bugatti, Grayhawk, Swan Lake, Talbot, Barrett, Ducks Landing, Cardinal Creek, Cascade Cove, Sunflower Drive and Sunshine Drive. I share this with you in the event you would like to park your car at one of those locations. Please remember we want all of our Boals families to stay safe, so please stay in your car or on your porches. We need to follow the CDC health guidelines of staying 6 feet apart. We want everyone to have fun, but stay safe and healthy!

Again, these are just a few of the streets, so listen for the car horns, and cheers as the Boals Staff spreads joy throughout our neighborhoods tomorrow afternoon.

In excitement, Christina Beran

General information

Mary Boals was born near Gunter in 1916 and graduated valedictorian of her class from Gunter High School in 1933. She attended what is now the University of North Texas and received her degree from Austin College. She began her teaching career at a three-teacher school outside of Westin called Lone Star. Later, Miss Mary became the only teacher at small school near Gunter called Stiff. She married Homer Boals in 1939 and moved to Frisco in 1942, at which time she began teaching high school English at FHS. During this time, she was also sponsor of the senior class, which included being responsible for senior day activities and graduation. In 1947 she chose to stay home while her daughter, Rosemary, and son, William, were small. She returned to the classroom fulltime as a first grade teacher in 1957 – for several years she was the sole first grade teacher in the system! During this period, she had many pupils who were children of her former English students. Mrs. Boals remained a first grade teacher in Frisco for the next 25 years. In 1982 she retired having completed a total of 36 years as an educator. In the late 1970s she was chosen Frisco Teacher of the Year and she has been active in numerous church and civic organizations, including membership in the national women educator’s sorority, Delta Kappa Gamma. Mrs. Boals is also a life member of PTA.
