🩵 Medicaid Renewal Reminder 🩵

Renewing your Medicaid coverage each year is important to help ensure there are no interruptions to your healthcare benefits and waiver services. If you receive a renewal packet, be sure to complete and return it by the deadline.

It is also important to report changes to your address, phone number, income, employment, or household members within 10 calendar days so you can continue receiving important notices about your coverage.

You can renew your coverage:
✔️ Online at https://commonhelp.virginia.gov/
✔️ By phone at 1-855-242-8282 (TTY: 1-888-221-1590)
✔️ By mail or in person through your local Department of Social Services

Staying up to date with your Medicaid renewal can help protect access to the services and supports you rely on.

⏰ Respite Reminder ⏰

Approved respite hours will reset on July 1, and any unused hours will not roll over into the new fiscal year. Be sure to review your remaining hours and plan ahead to use them before the deadline.

Respite services provide temporary relief for unpaid primary caregivers and can help support the overall well-being of families and caregivers.

Please note:
• Parents of minors are not eligible to bill for respite services
• Spouses are not eligible to bill for respite services

If you have questions about your approved hours, eligibility, or available services, please contact your Service Facilitator for assistance.

🗳️ Virginia Voting Rights Update

Beginning July 1, 2026, a new Virginia law changes how voting rights are addressed when a guardian is appointed.

Under the new law, individuals placed under guardianship will keep their voting rights unless a court specifically determines that those rights should be removed and provides an explanation for that decision.

This change shifts the process from automatic removal to preserving voting rights unless the court orders otherwise.

If voting rights were removed in the past, individuals may be able to petition the court to have those rights restored.

At Moms In Motion, we believe that access to information helps individuals and families make informed decisions about their rights and options. Review the resources in this graphic from The Arc of Northern Virginia to learn more about the law and available advocacy support from them and the disAbility Law Center of Virginia.

We were honored to participate in The Missing Middle—Aging with Lifelong Disabilities APSC Webinar Series this evening and hear directly from young adults with disabilities about the importance of inclusion, advocacy, and being heard. 💜 (Autism Society Central Virginia)

One message stood out powerfully throughout the discussion:

“Nothing About Us, Without Us.”

Individuals with disabilities deserve a seat at every table where decisions, services, and supports are being discussed. Their voices, experiences, perspectives, and leadership matter.

At Moms In Motion, we believe in listening, learning, and working alongside the individuals and families we serve to help build stronger, more inclusive communities for everyone.

Thank you to everyone who shared their stories and perspectives during this meaningful conversation. Your voices matter, and we are listening. ✨
