For generations, Front Royal was shaped by the people who worked in its fields, shops, railroads, mills, and factories. Among the major industries that helped define the town’s twentieth-century story was the rayon plant known over time as American Viscose, FMC, and Avtex.

That history is complex, and it lives most clearly in the memories of the people who were there.

As the Warren Heritage Society builds its Avtex collection, we are seeking oral histories from former employees. We hope to preserve the stories behind the work: the jobs you did, the people you worked alongside, the routines of daily life at the plant, the changes you witnessed, and the experiences you believe should be remembered.

If you worked at Avtex, American Viscose, or FMC in Front Royal, we would be grateful for the opportunity to record your story.
