Fire mitigation at Little Salt Wash Park is underway and moving quickly. A few things to know while crews are on-site.

Please stay out of the closed areas. We've noticed people getting past the trail closure signs, and we'd ask everyone to hold off. Crews are running heavy equipment, felling trees, and doing controlled burns, so the work zone isn't safe for visitors. If a trail is marked closed, please turn back.

This includes disc golf. The Little Salt Wash course is closed while the work wraps up. The Snooks Bottom Open Space course is open if you're looking to play.
The fuel-reduction project began Monday, May 18 and should take about two weeks total. It's a partnership between the Lower Valley Fire District, Two Rivers Wildfire Coalition, the City of Fruita, Black Mule Forestry, and Eco Burn. Crews are clearing invasive tamarisk, dead and fallen trees, dry grasses, and other hazardous vegetation to reduce wildfire risk and protect nearby homes and open spaces.

The project uses no chemicals or herbicides. Little Salt Wash flows directly into the Colorado River, so keeping the work chemical-free protects the wash, the surrounding habitat, and the river downstream.

Thanks for respecting the closures and giving our crews room to work. It helps them finish faster and keeps everyone safer.

Yesterday we had the honor of recognizing several of our firefighters with the Phoenix Award for their role in saving a life through rapid intervention, teamwork, and exceptional patient care.

These calls are never handled by one person alone — they are the result of dispatchers, law enforcement, firefighters/EMS providers, and hospital staff all working together toward one goal. Today’s recognition highlights the difference that training, professionalism, and teamwork can make during someone’s worst day.

We are incredibly proud of our crews and grateful for their commitment to serving our community every day. Congratulations to all recipients on this well-deserved recognition.
