π On Sunday at 9:00 AM, members of your Frye Island Fire Department met for weekly training.
A group of firefighters and our Fire Police personnel took Engine 1 to the water refill hydrant on Ridge Road to practice water resupply operations while pumping and flowing water from the deck gun. π§
In an actual emergency, it's important to be familiar with procedures to help ensure we get things done efficiently and safely.
π A second group of firefighters convened in the classroom to discuss response strategies and tactics and practice incident command in a series of interactive, computer-generated emergencies on the island. Scenarios included:
An e-bike fire that extended to a camp
A car fire on the ferry β΄οΈ
An injured swimmer at Long Beach requiring urgent medical care, evacuation, and a LifeFlight landing zone with helicopter transport π
In each of these scenarios, personnel set incident priorities, identified needed resources, issued orders to coordinate response, and practiced doing the things they would need to do in an actual emergency.
And we'll be back again next week to do the same. π
