City Council meeting tomorrow at 5:30pm. Here’s a good description of what’s on the agenda.

Item 17 introduces an ordinance implementing the state ban on irrigating nonfunctional turf with potable water on commercial, industrial and institutional properties, HOA common areas, and local government property.

Missed the last council meeting? Key decisions were:

- Council (5-0) selected Republic Services to remain the city’s solid waste hauler. This decision came after many rounds of elimination and a very competitive bid by Republic.
(Note: Jung participated remotely for this item only then logged off).

-Council 3-1-1 (Valencia “No”; Jung Absent) voted to suspend the use of Flock cameras in the city for six month pending further review and a town hall meeting. This was an item I brought forward based on many community concerns. It’ll be up to the next council to determine its future use.

A promise kept…

State Senator Tom Umberg presented $1 million in state funding for the long-awaited renovation of the gym at Independence Park, which has been closed for years. Work has begun, along with a new playground and other park improvements.

It’s been several years for me moving this project forward, protecting the park and gym from privatization, and securing its funding, including dedicated park dwelling fees. I’m grateful to see construction begin before I leave office, even though completion will come a few months later.

Many thanks to Senator Umberg and his staff for working with us to secure the funding, and to Rep. Lou Correa who helped bring federal funding as well. I couldn’t have asked for better partners. A big thanks to our Parks & Recreation and Public Works teams, and the many residents who advocated alongside us, especially Egleth Nuncci and the moms from the Center for Healthy Neighborhoods.

Our kids deserve a safe place to play, grow, and thrive. The future belongs to them.

A heartwarming final community meeting at the CSUF Center for Healthy Neighborhoods in my capacity as council member.

For the past eight years, I’ve had the honor of working with the Center’s amazing resident leaders to improve our community. We worked on housing issues, healthcare, COVID relief, safety, park improvements, the Union Pacific Trail, and much more. Along the way, we also became friends.

After giving my final report, they surprised me with a lovely cake, appreciation letters, and some very kind words that truly touched my heart.

A special thank you to Egleth Nuncci for her friendship, partnership, and for bringing us together all these years. I’m grateful for all we accomplished.

Gracias por su amistad, su confianza y todos estos años compartidos. Siempre las llevaré en mi corazón.

I’m heartbroken for the loss of Lorraine Turissini, she was a force for good in our community and a wonderful human being. My condolences to her husband Tony and their family. Rest in Peace my dear friend. Your smile and impact will live on. ❤️

I’m happy to say that we’re moving ahead with the final phase of the Lemon Bridge Murals restoration project. I appreciate all our community members who donated toward this project.

I’m looking forward to working with muralist Andrew “Droo” Stirdivant again and bringing the larger murals back to life, including La Virgen de Guadalupe.

I only have a couple of months left in my term, so the project may be completed after I leave office. Still, I’m glad that I was able to see it through and keep my promise to bring pride back to our South Fullerton neighborhoods.

Fullerton is the town I live in, after all.

Missed the last council meeting?

The main item was the adoption of the 2026-27 City Budget. It passed 3-2 (Zahra, Charles “No”) with deep cuts in public safety, public works, parks and recreation, code enforcement, graffiti removal, the public library—including books—and more. I opposed because we had less severe and more reasonable options that would have achieved the needed reductions without drastically compromising services.

The September 1st council meeting has been cancelled. The next meeting will be held on September 15th.
